hi

i am looking to have a install in my car but would like to keep the standerd headunit due to the mpg info on it i was just woundering how much the headunit can take e.g amps ? there is 3 dif things i was looking to do

1 . 2 amps witch are 4 way on each imput both 1000w .. 1 amp running 4 Speakers one in each door 2nd amp running 1 sub bridged between to connection and the other 2 connections running 6*9s

2. first imput running front upgraded Speakers 2nd imput running 1 amp 1000w with 4way controlling back 6*9s and 1 sub

3. upgrading front Speakers back speakers and adding 6*9s by cutting into the feed for the rear speakers

at the moment i have front standerd speakers and 6*9s in the rear installed by using the rear speaker feed with rear speakers discountected due to the person installing the speakers saying that it could blow the head unit ?

advice and further option i could do with the original headunit would be very great full

Hi Carl,

I have fitted the toyota tweeters to the front which cuts into the front speaker wiring. Very easy to install and a bit of a bargain at £33 from Toyota.

I have then fitted the toyota sub under the drivers seat, its not that powerful but gives it what it needs. I chose the Toyota sub because all the wires plug striaght into the back of the existing headunit with no power leads going to the Battery or anything.

I have upgraded all the Speakers in doors with infinity Speakers (front Speakers are 16.5 cm and rears are 13cm)

This setup works really well for me except for when you crank it up past 53/54 on the volume as it starts to distort.

  • 2 weeks later...

i would just change the headunit...the mpg counter and all is a must sacrifice for sounds.

The original headunits are really powerful tho to be honest however with aftermarket parts they cant handle the power.

i have pulled the headunit opened it up had a look its an effort alot of cutting and soldering if you want it right.

and to power all that is a pain. what i would suggest is grab a tv screen and everything while your at it.

I've just fitted a new HU and sub into my motor and to be honest it wasn't to difficult, I've left the standard Speakers in and they are more then fine... I'm actually really impressed with how good they are. The only problem I encountered was running the power cable from the Battery to the boot. I've put a post up but if you want to know any more just ask.
