We have had an Aygo Blue for about 4 weeks and the glove box cover (factory fit) keeps falling open.

I am not an engineer but a monkey can see the catch is a very poor design as it has a very short nib to locate in the hole in the dashboard, add this to

temperature change to the plastic, manufacturing tollerences and the general flexing of the plastic dashboard and there is no chance it will be 100% secure.

Took it in for Mr T to look at and he said they had others with the same problem.

They had fitted a 'toyota fix' to other cars which was some sort of clip but found that this then resulted with the pull handle breaking.

(When we drove their demonstrator car before the purchase the pull catch was broken).

He said he would add it to other warranty claims he had sent to Toyota who had aknowledged there is a fault.

He thought there would be a recall eventually but could not be more specific , he would keep on the case and said we get a letter from Toyota at some point.

Apart from the lid problem we are well pleased with this great little car.

As weird as it might sound, I'm actually happy to read that...

I just replaced my Peugeot-lid with a Toyota one a couple of weeks ago

as I didn't like the way the hinge and release worked on the ne by Peugeot.

But now my Toyota lid has started falling open as well. In fact I put

a bit of tape and heat shrink tubing over the catch just this afternoon,

in order to give it a bit more lenght and friction.

Looks really stupid and also makes the lid harder to open and close,

but anything is better than a lid dropping open ad me trying to catch

it in a reflex, allmost crashing my car :(

I've just sent an email to my dealer asking what's wrong and what they'll do...

Hi all, 1st post.

Got a glove box lid from the dealer this morning. Took 10 mins max to fit, appears (so far) to be very secure when closed, and looks so much better than the gaping hole that was there previously.

It would also seem that the price has gone down a little bit. £23.33 +VAT (£27.41 ish inc VAT). If you've got the service plan it's worth mentioning it too as it got me 10% off. Sweet!

Jumping off topic I also picked up some mud flaps at the same time. £15.40 + VAT for a pair (front or rear). The dealer even printed me off some installation instructions as I couldn't find them on the AIM webbie. The front pair look straightforward enough, while the rears look a bit trickier requiring a couple of holes to be drilled. If anyone else would like a copy of the instructions I'd be happy to scan them in and send them over...working under the assumption of course that I've not just gone blind, and they definitely aren't on the AIM website.

Cheers,

Justin

Hi Justin,

I got the mudflaps too off eBay with instructions which indicate that you have to drill holes in the rear bumper, however i have read elsewhere on this forum that the screws are self tapping so the bumper may not need drilled.

Let me know how you get on with them, I am hoping to get my new Aygo on Monday.

I have just fitted a set to my 'Blue' and you will most definately need to drill the rear panel (3 holes each side) otherwise the self tappers will just skid around and make a mess. The holes are already in the front wheel arches of course. Once the srews are in (taking care not to over tighten!) a small dab of grease, or Waxoyl on the exposed threads and hex heads will stop them going rusty and looking grotty later on.

EEK! Is it easy enough to get a drill in round at the tyre to drill the holes on the inside arch?

Thanks,

Jeff

Double EEK! Has anyone tried fitting these without removing the tyres?

My Ford Ka ones used to just clip on.

You only have to take the back wheels off, not the tyres! :D It's no harder than than changing a wheel when you have a flat tyre and the supplied jack and spanner work very well!

I used a Dremel to drill my holes, but you still need to take the wheels off so the mud flap can be positioned correctly prior to drilling. All 4 flaps took me 1/2 hour, it really is an easy job.

Dont suppose you fancy coming down here and doing mine then?

Got our first bit of sunshine today for over a week, so have been out all morning cleaning the car. Cant be bothered to fit the mud flaps too, have run out of energy. I was wondering when I was having a nose about earlier whether the wheels would have to come off. Fronts don't look too bad as I'm imagining that you can just steer the wheels out of the way, but the backs looks like they're gonna be a right *****.
