Another Locking Problem!

Hi people. Newbie here!

I've had a look thru the old threads on here & found a few dealing with avensis locking complaints but i havnt seen 1 thats similar to my problem!

I recently bought a 99 T reg avensis 1.8 GS estate. Shes a craking car but the remote locking is giving me some major headaches!

I can lock the car with the key fob... but not unlock it!

When i put the key in the drivers door & turn it, it only opens the driver door.... i've got to put the key in the ignition & use the button inside the drivers door to let any1 else in the car!

& the key just spins in the boot (tailgate) lock!

The car is definetly recieving a signal when im trying to unlock as the hazards lights flash twice!

Any suggestions before mr local toyota dealer gets a fone call?

Thanks.

Here's what to do if your key refuses to remote unlock the car and disable the alarm.

1. Open car door

2. Put non-working key into ignition and turn to ON (just ON, you don't need to actually start the car). Leave car door open.

3. Wait 10 seconds

4. Press the unlock button on the key fob twice. You will hear the central locking made a little noise.

5. Take key out.

Your key is now ready to be used properly again.

Hi guys. thanks for the quick replies. I found that post earlier & I've already tried that. Still no joy! I put the keys in... leave it for 10-15 seconds... press the unlock button twice &.... nothing! No movement.... no noise! WAH!!!! :crybaby:

If the batteries where going would this be effecting the "lock" function as well?

Its REALLY annoying as my nearest dealer is 30miles away!!!

Do not worry mate. I did try program my second key and probably I will have to go to Toyota and pay about 60 pounds for programming. Maybe it is not much but I f you can avoid cost. Non of the instruction does want to work in my car so…Good luck

Sounds like the batteries are going too. Get new ones and then use the instructions above. If the batteries are low/dead, the C/L not working is a sign that the batteries are on their way out.

Hi peeps! Thanks again 4 the quick replies. The locking is still giving me grief but i think i may have found if not the cause then maybe a factor! My interior rear passenger door lock doesn't seem to move when the car is locked or unlocked! (meaning the little knob next to the door latch doesn't move!) So I'm wanting to have a look inside the door to see if anything is obviously damaged or on its last legs but i cant get the !Removed! window winder off! (The rotating handle!) Any advice on how to shift this?

ps- to save stating a new thread, does any1 know if theres an adapter u can buy that changes the aerial connection at the back of the stereo? Following some great advice i found in these forums i managed to replace my bog-standard "cassette" player with my Pioneer mp3/cd player out my old car! (i bought the appropriate Toyota conversion leads off eBay.) Anyway, jobs a good 1 but i can seem to get the aerial to stay in the back! My CD player has the two standard aerial connections in the rear (The 1 that Toyota uses & the 1 that every other car I've ever had uses!) I need my tuneage while driving! Help!?

You can get them from Halfords

Rotate the window winder until it points towards the floor.

Take a piece of cloth, hold it with both hands and slide it upwards between the winder and the door.

Then the metal pin that holds the winder in place should pop right off.

Not 100% it complies to your car, but at least that is the way toyota's were always built. :)

Change the drivers door lock assembly, there is a microswitch in there that controls the other doors.
