Mp3 Cd Changer

Ok, i have a Toyota 6 Disc In Dash CD Autochanger which i took out of my Yaris prior to collecting my CTS.

Now, it can be fitted to the CTS but in order for this to be done i would need to buy a mounting kit (which i can only get from Mr T) for £120 plus a fitting cost on top!!

Now for £120 i can get hold of a 6 Disc MP3 CD Changer.

But what i want to know is will i still be able to use the steering wheel controls for volume track/disc change?

Anyone else fitted an aftermarket CD changer??

:help2:

i have not been able to find a lead that will allow the steering control for an aftermarket headunit, and i have been looking for a year and a half.

it sems that no-one makes them.

I was thinking of adding a changer to mine.. I was informed by Skidz in Falkirk that IT WAS possible to keep the steering wheel controls with a Sony 6 disc changer.. but it wasn't compatible with MP3's. It would just be a case of finding a suitable unit that plugs in the same as the standard toyota unit that does play MP3.

Anybody know who makes the Toyota head units?

I.E. if it's Sony, Kenwood etc then hopefully the relevant manufacturers cd changer should be compatible???

Failing that Mr T wins again!! :o

The old MR2 ones were Sony.... the new MR2 ones were Fisher Price

Send an E-mail to one or two of the online car audio places with an enquiry, once you find a nice unit, ask your local place if they can get it in for you.

Alternatively what you could do instead is get yourself a nice mp3 headunit with a remote and not care about the controls

1 mp3 disc is the same as about 8 cds

I think Panasonic make the Toyota head units in Corollas!

So the 12 disc MP3 changer i've seen would be a bit OTT then?

corolla stuff is all Matsu$hita (Panasonic)

if you get a panasonic changer (not a toyota oe changer) the bus system is the same but you'll have MP3 ability. IIRC its called AVC Lan

This does require the use of a soldering iron mind you (as the plugs are a different shape) but it is fairly straightforward to do. that way you keep OEM stuff but also have steering wheel controls.

not really mate, i can get through 10 hours of music in a 2 hour drive, but then again I am a flicker!

I just think that you should save yourself the trouble and get a normal MP3 headunit and a fitting kit! Who needs steering wheel controls!
