Driving A Prius Through Deepish Floods

Living in South Worcestershire on the Severn Flood Plain we have now suffered two fairly substantial floods.... ahhhhhh!

I was always told to drive through flood water at about 5 miles per hour and never to let the engine stall less it sucked water back through the exhaust.

A steady 5 mph is just the sort of conditions when a Prius says to itself "hmmm, think I will stop the engine and go on to electric"

You can force the Prius to electric rather than peterol but the only way I could think of forcing the petrol engine o was to turn the climate control to 28C

I I being paranoid about the petrol engine stopping mid flood?

Any thoughts out there!

Sounds like a good thread... Surprised no-one took it up!!!

I know in a standard vehicle, you drive slow but keep moving and keep revs as high as possible, (within reason) to stop water going up the exhaust. Surely the handbook should mention the correct proceedure for this vehicle? Or Mr. T should offer advice!!

I was driving up the M5 when the floods happened and silly me turned off at Gloucester, thinking that the traffic jams on the M5 were due to an accident. As I discovered, there was of a lot of flooding in Gloucester, but my Prius coped without any problems.

I know that there were quite a few occasions when the water level was above the bottom of the door, but I didn't have any problems whatsoever. I didn't travel that slowly through the waters, as I wanted to keep moving. Everyone else seemed to drive quite gingerly...

Our 1.5 hour trip took 6.5 hours :-( and we missed out on shopping in Birmingham.
