D4d Idle Control Valve

My D4D is lumpy when cold on tickover until warm. It starts fine and runs perfectly, except for this lumpy idle when cold. I am told its the idle control valve. Does anyone know about this? Is it easy to clean it, where is it and how do I recognise it?

Thanks

B
