I have posted several times on this problem, and for thoes who have helped thanks, but it is still the same.

UPDATE.....

Very hard to start from cold, very lumpy and shudders, when and if I get it started, it will tick over quite happily but go to press the throttle and it cuts out. then revs up then cuts out, revs up, cuts out, revs up, cuts out.(to about 5,000 rev's)

When i leave it ticking over to warm up to normal OP temp then its ok, no problem at all, great runner, but come to start the next morning when the car is cold..... NO CHANCE.

Someone said the ECU temp sensor, so changed that, no difference, changed plugs, leads, tested all connections, no change.

Taken injectors out, cleaned them, air intake assembly cleaned, air filter checked, even had a B service in the hope it would cure it.

People this is such a great car when it goes i do not want to get rid of it, PLEASE ANY HELP I AM DESPERATE

Looking forward to thosands of replies

MaD ( well getting there)

Have you tried the On-Board Diagnostics yet?

The early Avensis had the same arrangement as the Carina E. Details as to how to access it can be found here:

Yes I did, the diag plug is in the fuse panel in the drivers foor well in the avensis, show's as pulsing lights evenly spaced ( no break in pattern, just on/off/on/off), so i asume that means no fault, but if i do not re set the OBD computer, will it still produce the fault if repaired??

ie code and fault ??, cos I did not re set the computer.

Thanks

MaD
