A Few Questions

In the absence of a manual i'd like to ask some newbie questions....

What are the recommended tyre pressures for my Y Reg 1.0 16V VVTi GLS 3 door Yaris?

Once i've pulled the hood release swith inside by the steering column how do I get the bonnet open?

Does anyone know where I can find a screenshot of under the bonnet so I can begin to check on oil levels etc?

Can anyone tell me what kind of oil I should put in once I get the b******** bonnet open?

That's just for starters!

:crybaby:

Hi Louis - welcome to TOC

A couple of answers to your questions

1. Tyre pressure should be 33 at the front and 30 at the back.

2. Once you've popped the bonnet, there is a clasp underneath the bonnet, if you run your hand underneath the bonnet to the right of the centre of the grille, you'll feel a clasp which you need to press to release the bonnet

3. Once you've opened the bonnet you wont need a photo of the engine bay as the oil is clearly marked

4. A lot of folk recommend Castrol GTX Magnatec (10w-40) or Mobil 1 5W50 but any 'branded' 5w40 or 5w50 fully synthetic oil I'd imagine would be just as good.

Thanks for that Angel! As a first time driver I really could have done with the owner's manual. In the absence of one I have to say how glad I am to have found this site.

A godsend!

Cheers

How to open bonnet:

In drivers footwell on the right hand side connected to the dash is a leaver you should pull

Then go around to bonnet which will be slightly popped open and put your hand in the centre of the grille and slide it right until you find something you can push up.

Push that up and push bonnet up with other hand and hey presto!

Hope this helps!!

Welcome to the club, as mentioned if you have any questions just ask away & we'll all try to help, but if you're after a manual they're normally on eBay for around £10-£15 including delivery

Thanks again. Are you referring to the Haynes manuals or the one that should have come with the car? I'm just looking for some basic instructions!

You should find the basic car manual on eBay. Right now I can only see a 2006 version, but if you keep looking you'll find the one you need before long.

Alternatively contact someone who is breaking a Yaris e.g. this auction (Is that similar to yours, or is it a later version - don't know my Yaris history so well I'm afraid).

Just the basic user manual, I didn't get 1 with my car & so bought 1 off eBay & it was brilliant, it's absolutely full of stuff, I used to just sit in the car for ages reading the book & trying out little things, it's amazing what you don't know about your car until you read about it. I'd recommend you buy it but it's up to you, we'll all do our best to help if you have any questions whether it's in the book or not.

Thanks Kev. Yeah, that's exactly what i'd like to do, sit with the book and get to know the car a bit better. I'll keep hassling the garage and look on eBay for one.
