Its Been A Long Time, But Its Time To Get Back To Jap

Hi there everyone. Its been a seriously long time since my last post here. Hope everyone is doing well.

Over a year ago i sold my heavily modded Yaris and now im looking to get back to Jap as im currently driving a modded Golf GTi turbo and its just not the same.

Ok so im now looking for some help and some genius wisdom from you lot. I am looking to get an MR2 Turbo or an MR-S. Advice on both is appreciated.

Im starting to sway more towards an MR2 turbo as they are way more tunable and im looking for big power. Now im hoping that some people can fill me in on all the plus and minus points on buying one of these and what i should look out for when buying one used.

Im also looking for info on tuning these babies, what power i can run on standard clutch, standard internals, things like that. And also what and where is the best places to get to get kit for running big power.

Anyway hope you guys can help me out and thanks shed loads in advance.

Rev 3 turbo is needed which is 1993/1994+

Standard internals can take up to 350bhp and the clutch is alright ish till about that point as well.

Standard power is circa 240bhp...with a zorst/decat/filter/boost controller upped to 1.1bar you can see close to 300bhp.

Then... add a hybrid turbo and fuel management gizmo and your looking at another 30/40bhp

Zorst, filter, decat and aftermarket ECU/Piggyback ECU will see you hit 300bhp easily in a rev3. Rev1 you will see 20bhp less.

I was under the impression that the internals could handle quite a bit more than 350bhp though. I thought 400ish at least.

Your stock clutch will die very quickly if you up the power to around 300bhp. You can get decent clutches out there though that can handle alot and can be very driveable. I had a clutch rated at 450 ft/lb torque qhich was very driveable.

If you're on a budget then tbh a rev1 or 2 turbo isn't a bad choice. You'll only see about 20bhp less than a rev3 engine, like for like on mods.
