Sat Nav Questions

Hi

I am about to take the plunge and purchase my first Prius (test drive scheduled for tomorrow).

Having read everything I can find online I have a couple of questions about the supplied Sat Nav system that I cant seem to find answered anywhere

Does it support a 3D view (like TomTom)

Does it support traffic updates (and how does it get them)

Does it support full post-code navigation

Hope someone can let me know and will report back after the test drive

thanks

Jon

No

No, but if it did it would be via RDS-TMC

Yes, sort of to XNN N

Buy the T4 and a Tom Tom, at least you can set it whilst on the move, Mother Toyota has been listenning to the DoT doom mongers too much.......

You can only put in SW1 1.

Rather than SW1 1AA.

So it goes to the general area (which could be quite big!), and then you'll have to choose the street.

Thats cool, I can live with that :-)

I ordered my Prius yesterday but forgot to ask one question of the dealer

How often does Toyota update the map DVD ?

  • 1 month later...

Toyota does not have the pseudo 3d like the tom tom but to my mind thats more confusing than the standard 2d.

you get a 7 inch screen than can go into split screen rather than the 2.5 inch tomtom.

IT also uses the vehicle inputs when the satellite signals aren't there's so easier in tunnels etc.

Tom Tom maps are NOT as accurate as the ASIN ones used by toyota. which are updated every 6 months and updates are cheaper than the tom tom!!

you can enter details by SW1A 1 rather than the full SW1a 1AA but thats not much extra you just select the street from a list and its just as easy.

you get ETA, online traffic info from the TMC input without subscription, you get info on next turn and distance.

You cant set it while moving but then you also can't get prosecuted as have several tom tom users.

for the easier to see screen alone its worth it over the tom tom also on resale used Priuses without the SatNav are much less than the T5 it holds its value better.
