Water Pump

Hi, has anyone changed the water pump on their 1.3 or 1.5 yaris? i understand its the same on both of the engines. Mine has started leaking and im thinking of changing it myself. Is it any easy job to do? are there any additional parts required other than the pump itself? Does anyone have a rough idea about the cost of the pump? Sorry about all the questions! Many thanks in advance!

Its an easy job. You will need a new gasket when fitting the new pump too.

You will need a gasket and some coolant, gaskets sometimes come with them.

should be pretty easy.

I paid about £40 for a new pump, fansport can get original toyota ones for £60ish.

I changed the water pump on our 1 litre. It was fairly easy with the help of a haynes. I changed the drive belt too. I had to unscrew part of the engine mountings and support the engine weight with a jack in order to free the belt. You should get away with just taking it off the pulleys. Or change the belt too if its nearly due......

The only difficult bit i had was draining the engine of collant. I couldnt reach the nipple so had to let it all flow out as i undid the pump. Make sure u keep your collant clean and take your time fulling the system again.

But it cost me around 60 for the pump (which comes with the gasket), 20 for the belt from toyota.

Well i did the water pump today. all went to plan apart from i had to undo the engine mountings to get the pump clear of the engine block and didnt really have the proper tools (had to do some improvising!). i'll go for a long run during the week to make sure everyting is okay and no leaks! the pump was only £45 with a gasket, and i bought some gasket dressing for £3. Not to sure about the pump tho, it had a crappy plastic impellor instead of a metal one which was on the toyota one i took off, hope it lasts!
