Front Wash Wipe Not Working

Hi Guys, i have problem with wash wipe on my 1.3sr 02. The front windscreen jets not working and no sound coming from pump. However, rear wash wipe works fine.

So before i take pump apart under wheel arch, any body had a ny such problems before?

suspect its a bad connection or faulty pump.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Similar topic that might help you here. Though slightly different.

Unusual for a pump to fail completely on one screen and work fine on the other - except as a step on its way to complete failure. Is there any noise at all when you try to spray the screen? A very quiet noise could indicate that it's trying to pump water to the screen but isn't able to do so - perhaps the jets are blocked? Failing that I think a dodgy contact is most likely.

The pump comes out very easily and you can then check the wires are sending the right signals. I think you'll find there are three - one earth and one +ve for the front screen, one +ve for the rear. If these are OK and pump not working even when its hoses are disconnected then has to be a dodgy pump.

Pumps quite expensive from Mr T and difficult to source from Halfords etc it seems. But you will find same pump on other Toyotas so shouldn't be too hard to source from a scrappy; I got a 2nd hand washer pump and bottle for a Rolla for less than £10 on the bay of E.

Done plenty of front screen washers on YARIS. It will most probably be a fault with the front pump. If you dont fancy buying a new pump just swap the water pipes/electrical connectors over so you use the other pump for the fronts.

I thought that there was only one pump on the Yaris with three connections that pump one way to the front screen and reverse the pumping direction to the back screen by reversing the switched polarity.

I do not think that the Yaris has two pumps

I'd be very surprised if it has more than one pump as that is so rare these days.

But knowing the design of these motors, my thoughts are that if it has stopped working in one direction it may well pack up completely before long; I could be wrong about that though.

The mechanism you suggested is really handy if you're stuck without front washers when you really need them, because it's easier to live without the rear wash.

It's also a useful diagnostic, because if the problem is blocked jets then then swapping the pipes will have no effect in which case something will be learned.

I wouldn't rely on it as a permanent solution though.

Hi

There is definitely only one pump on the Yaris. The pump has a small box on the side that must contain the circuitry to reverse the pump depending on which screen you want to wash. This is probably where the problem is - the pump is a totally sealed assembly and there is no way in - I've tried!. As other have said, to test the supply put one probe of a voltmeter on the centre connector and then the other one on of the outer pins in turn while operating the switch with the ignition on - you should see a voltage between the centre and each of the outer connections at some stage while working the switch for front and rear wash.

Note the tips in the link posted by T600 above.
