Before the dawn of my Aygo I always drove Fords. With a Ford you don't remove the key from the fuel cap, after filling up, until you replace the fuel cap. In more years driving than I care to remember I have never driven off without replacing the fuel cap. Something distracted me a couple of weeks ago (it was one of those "pay at pump" things) and, I'm afraid I drove off with the cap dangling. Someone, helpfully, beeped her horn at me and I got out and replaced the cap.

You didn't close the flap either??? Wouldn't you have seen the flap in your mirror then???

Perhaps if the problem had remained for much longer but, as it was, I was leaving a car park to join the carriageway and an SUV came up behind me and started beeping. It was chucking it down with rain and I indicated to a pedestrian that she should pass in front of me and, a moment later, she indicated that the SUV was beeping at me.
