Theres A T Sport In My Driveway :d

Hey all,

Just upgraded my 1.3 Yaris for a Sport, and it's wayyyyyy better, I love it!

There is a main problem though, and thats the alarm. It goes off 15 seconds later after I lock the car with the remote. It happens when I press 'Lock' on the remote either once, or on a double lock. It seems to be fine if i press 'Lock' 3 times though :s

Looking at the manual, 3 times disables the interior sensors, kind of weird since there is nothing to set it off... I've tried checking all doors, bonnet and boot. Doing a search lead me to believe its the sensitivity setting, but I didn't want to mess with anything unsure.

On a other note, i'm going for the gun metal look with thunder grey by refurbishing the original alloys :)

Hope to post pictures on a later date.

All comments appreciated.

if you take the bottom of the dash out where the head unit is there is a control knob there for the alarm, should be easy enough to change the sensitivity.

Other than that it could be a faulty alarm.

If you adjust sensitivity, wind drivers window down then adjust sensitvity a small amount at a time.

Close your door & set alarm. Give it 30 seconds then walk towards car. Alarm should not go off. If it does adjust sensitivity until is only goes off when you wave your hand inside car & not when you walk towards it.

Other than that, try changing sensing unit.

The alarm sounds as though it’s over sensitive or there is something in (or outside) your car that is triggering the sensors. Any flies/spiders trapped in your car? Mines gone off while cleaning the windscreen on the outside!

Get in the passenger footwell, look under the dash near the centre consol and you will see (with a torch) a small black box which is stuck to the plastic part of the bulkhead. It has a small rubber dial on it. I believe this the sensitivity control.

Try a quarter turn anti clockwise, sit in your car and press the remote twice. After 30 seconds move your arm around and see if it triggers the alarm.

I think it is trial and error to find the sensitivity you want.

Hi again, I'm unable to locate the black box after removing all of the centre console. The year of my T Sport is a 2001 on a 'Y' plate.

Thanks.

I thought it was that panel which is set back below the HU, not needing to take all that stuff off. I may be wrong though.

should be located under the left hand side of the dash at the bottom in this pic towards the glove box, or mine was anyway.

If not it may be hiding behind the glove box.

Thanks for all the help, however I still can't find it.

I tried looking in that highlighted area, but no sucess. I also removed the glove box, but there was nothing behind it. :crybaby:

Just had a look under there. Nothing. Your right, I'll just take it to a Toyota garage, they'll spot it for me.

Iv read somewhere before that the alarms on t sports are all fitted at the selling dealership rather than at the factory. If this is the case, i suppose the black box could be wherever the installing mechanic decided to put it! this would explain why we all seem to have them in different places!

Hi again,

I went to my Toyota Garage, and they said the best way to get to the control is removing the whole dash board. Now I didn't want to mess with the dash with no clue how to remove it. By the way, he told me that most alarm controls are installed to the left hand side of the speedo.

Has anyone ever removed their dash? Or have any information on how to remove it?

Also, does anyone know where the interior sensors are?

Thanks again.

Get in the passenger footwell, look under the dash near the centre consol and you will see (with a torch) a small black box which is stuck to the plastic part of the bulkhead. It has a small rubber dial on it. I believe this the sensitivity control.

No need to take your car apart!

You should be able to see it just by looking under and upwards the passenger side footwell.

I will take a photo later and show you. In the mean time, put your car back together

Behind here... You need to get on your hands and knees with a torch and look upwards. It's only about 3 inches in size with a rubber button on it.

Sucsess!

It must of slipped my eye the last time I looked under there.

You guys are great, I don't know what i'd do without you lot.

Now to sort the alarm out, I'll tell you how it goes...

---

Edit:

I noticed they are two dials on the control, do they do the same job?

I think I only have 1 on mine.

Do one at a time, quarter turn making a note which way you turned it and do the 'sitting in car test'

Hmm, turns out them dials on the side do nothing lol. The real dial was hidden from me  I decided to pull the control out, this is how I noticed.

Now that i've changed the sensitivity, everything seems fine, as of yet the alarm hasn't went off after a quater turn on the control.

Thanks a lot to everyone who helped out

Hopes this helps anyone else who may come across this problem in the future.

There she is!

That's the baby

I put a cable tie around it to hold it back in place (along with the self adhesive pad)

You shouldn't have any more problems with it from now on.

Well I thought I'd fixed it but now it just delays in going off, it's going off on the lowest setting. I must have a problem with the sensors or the alarm it's self. Thats my luck, but was worth a try.
