Prado In-gear Drive

Hello people,

I'm new to this forum and ws wondering if you could shed some light on a slightly grey (for me ) area. My Dad has bought a 1992 Prado 2.4TD which he was in when he came to see us this weekend in Manchester. He had driven from Manchester.

He is a bit wooly on most of the controls due to lack of handbook, but it's and auto, and he drove it here in H4 all the way.

Don't Toyota 4x4's have freewheeling front hubs? His have a bolted cap on them saying locked... I used to drive a HiLux on site, and you used to have to lock the front hubs by hand. That was a manual though. What's the correct setting for general road use, when he's not playing farmer Giles on the fields? Should it be, or can it be in 2wd drive mode, for better fuel consumptionetc?? Yours hopefully...

Hi there,

Im not sure about all of them but mine is a 2.4TD Jap import and in order to turn on the 4WD there is a switch for the hub lock and H4 to the right of the steering wheel.
