Wobbling Wheels

Hi,

Once I get above 55 in my 1.8 ( 106K miles) there is an increasingly uncomfortable vibration through the steering wheel. Wheels seem straight (momo 16"), all new tyres freshly balanced (wobble was there be4 new wheel fitted).

When I turn the steering wheel at rest there is a definite but quiet knock to be heard and felt.

Any ideas guys??

Possibly faulty wheel balancing?

Or perhaps an inbalance in the drive train - in which case most likely the hubs or the disks I would think.

Or too much play in something - steering rack and its associated arms and ball joints, or else the suspesion itself.

It's a tricky one to narrow down I would think.

Mine used to do it at 70-75mph which was a real pain on the motorway, as it meant you had to go at 65mph or 80mph to stop it. Mine has got the same identical wheels as yours,

unfortunately I can't help you though as it just stopped doing it, don't really know when as it can be weeks in between me getting anywhere near 70mph, but I just noticed one day that it no longer did it, and it's never done it again since.

I'd investigate the knock on the steering first and see if fixing that fixes it

Have had suspension and steering checked over by trusted mechanic. A small bit of rack play but that's about all.

Have checked wheels and discs for distortion . . . non there.

Also swopped fronts to backs.

Anyone know the tracking data?

Still wobbling!! :censor:
