Hi all

I have an 04 preface-lift T-Sport thats coming upto 50k, the local mrT want £95 for the service, just wondering i've only a few months left on the extended left so is it worth just going to a local dealer? also how much should i be looking to pay and other then an oil change and new filter what actually gets done on this service?

I also asked how much a 60K service is and was told almost £300!!!!! anyone know why its this expensive and again what gets done? mrT just said its a more 'indeepth' service.

Thanks

D

My 02 plate T-Sport is due its 60k service on the 22nd August. Its only done 36k miles but because all the stamps in the service history are done upto the 60k service then I've been told by the garage that's what they need to do. I've been quoted around £212 though! Its the major 20k service which I thought was pretty much routine servicing unless there was something really wrong with the car.

When i got the car I checked serving prices and it was £250 for a Major Service from the dealer I got the car from and the local dealer wanted £200 for a Major now they said nearly £300, oh well i've got a year before the 60k so the price might change again, might go lower being out off warrenty, fingers crossed anyway.

Look through the schedule on your service book and see what needs to be done.

£95 seems OK for the 50k service. Although I suspect it is nothing more than an oil change and some "checks".

The 60k service will probably include the air filter (about a tenner) and spark plugs (expensive Iridium ones) aswell. And possibly coolant/brake fluid changes. £300 is ridiculous.

I think if I were you I'd get the 50k one done by Mr T. You're unlikely to get it done much cheaper elsewhere.

Then get the 60k one done somewhere else. Even buy the parts yourself and get a decent independent garage to fit them if possible.

Click for spark plugs

Can also be found on eBay. NGK type is IFR6T11, there is a Denso type aswell which is listed in your owners manual.

Thanks

I've heard the 2ZZ-GE engine doesn't like to be messed with, engine management light appearing after fitting K&N air filters and things like that, but I take it the spark plugs can be replace as easly as most other cars? Theres no special tools that I need or anything else I should be aware of before doing it? don't wanna start it then realise i've overlooked something :)

Where do you live? I paid £200 for my 2 year full service at Toyota Denton. They checked and changed everything on the list.

I live in St.Helens the quote was from Bentleys in Warrington for the 60K but like I said when I got the car I checked service prices and it £200 for the full service at 40k from the same place. Thanks for the tip anyway, i've not checked out Denton's yet, my parents are looking for another car so I might have a look in Dentons sometime.

Ok, just taken it in for the 50K service and had a phone call back saying i need, 3 new tyres, the front pads are 95% warn and they recommend getting discs at the same time as the pads also the pollen filter needs replacing. All of which i expected, gonna get the tyres but 205's instead, they've quoted £258 for the front discs and pads and £46 for the filter!!! £46 don't they cost about £2 each?

To be fair to the dealer the service is very good and they are honest, everything they said was correct I just can't believe £46 to replace the pollen filter i know its behind the glove box and might be awkward but think i'll just replace it myself at the weekend when i do the sparksplugs.

Anyone got any suggestions for the brakes? it that a good price? i'm also think of just getting some greenstuff pads and some discs online and fitting them myself, with the help of a friend :) can anyone recommend any good discs and where to buy them? was thinking something like grooved and drilled black diamond, any good? I think i'm lookiong at arounf £50 for the pads and £150 for the discs?

Thanks

Dan

Pollen Filter is dead easy to replace. It is behind the glove box so just remove that, locate the pollen filter and change it. There's a guide in the owners manual on how to do this. A new pollen filter from Toyota is around £22. Disgusting how they charge you another £20 just to get them to fit it! :censor:

I would go for performance discs and pads. I'm sure you can get some fitted for less than the Toyota Standard Stock fitted price. Try the Black Diamonds or try EBC stuff which seem highly rated.

Black Diamond drilled and grooved discs with ebc greenstuff pads will set you back approx £180 and you could get the rear pads for an extra £45 so this is a better option than toyota parts because lets face it they are rubbish!

Think I would opt for the Black Diamond and EBC brake pads. The EBC brake pads will produce less dust and so should keep you alloys cleaner for longer.

Right looks like its gonna be Black Diamond and EBC then, i'd already decided on EBC greenstuff know just need to get a price for fitting. I've done discs and pads on my 1.8 escort when i had that but don't fancy doing it myself on this.

Looks like i'm not out this weekend and my card is gonna take a hammering this month:

£95 intermediate service

£16 pollen filter

£328 4x Goodyear Eagle F1 205 50 16 unless theres a better tyre option

£200 Discs and pads + fitting and delivery

£31 spark plugs

:( o well at least its all gonna be done and out of the way.

Rear pads are apparently 60% worn so might price doing them as well just to get it out of the way

Just wondering did you have to pay for screenwash and topup??? How much was that if you were charged?

Just done my 60k service myself, cost me approx.£100 for the parts and that includes Denso Iridium plugs,Genuine Oil Filter,5W-30 fully synthetic engine oil, pollen filter, Dot 5.1 Brake Fluid and a tin of carb. cleaner to clean the Throtle body/butterfly.

3 hours work(on my drive) and the T Sport is running sweet.

t-sport04 - if you have done disks and pads on your Escort, then the Corolla will be a breeze.

You could get 4x Toyo Proxes T1-Rs in 195/55/16 for around £250. Best rated tyre on Tyre Test.

And you'll have no problem doing the brakes if you're ok doing the plugs and if you've done brakes before!
