Throttle Lag = Acceleration Lag

Hi Guys,

I am relatively new Toyota owner and so far has been extremely dissapointed by the Avensis performance.

The issue I am referring is the throttle lag or some describe it as acceleration lag.

I find that extremely upsetting.

I just went and bought a brand new MAF meter to replace. Change it and - NOTHING, NOTHING AT ALL in relation to the above issue, all the same.

I am on the way to buy an O2 sensor and see if any change, but somehow got the feeling I will be dissapointed again.

Is the Avensis the most sluggish car I have ever driven ? - YES.

Is there something wrong with it ? - Do not know. It accelerates OK, but only after a few seconds while the engine wakes up. Surely you need to rely on the car to pull you forward when it counts, be it overtaking and you want to close the deal as soon as possible or purely to avoid an accident/ get away from a driver not seen you at a round-about.

I just still can't believe Toyota will design a car with such a slow responses.

OK the fuel economy might be an issue in competing with other makes of cars, but I think performance should come first.

I hear some have made comments that Toyota deliberatly have made the ECU respond slower to the throttle so that can allow some oil to get up to places that matters so that wear is at minimum. I think this is a lot of BULL.

Any opinions on how to resolve the issue will be greatly appresiated as well as just your opinion based on your exepiences.

Thanks,

Sorry, can't really help you as I haven't got that model of car, or anytihng similar to compare it to.

Does that model have a turbo? If so, that could account for the lag.

You say performance must come first. Perhaps that wasn't Toyota's thinking - it doesn't seem to be these days. And many would argue that they're right to put economy first.

I don't think you said which year your car is? Perhaps that info would help others who have got similar cars to tell you whether their experience of the car's performance matches your own.

Thanks, T600 !

I can't believe I have missed the details of the car. Sorry !

I currently own a "snail" Avensis T3-S, D-4D, estate and is 04 number plate. The car has been looked after and driven mostly on motorways, well 70% of the 91 000 miles.

And yes the car has a turbo, but it feels as I press the throttle a bit harder, before the turbo to kick in, some sort of surge occurs and the car gets confused, strugles !!!

As far economy or performance should come first, I recon economy should not be neglected but performance should come first. If left at this level of performance, then it becomes unsafe and dangerous, as you can not rely on the car to get you out of troube should you need it. It is just too damn slow!

Looking forward to any sugestions and opinions.
