How To Adjust Idle On 1998 Camry 4cl

Hi,

I want to know how to adjust idle on 1998 camry 4cl. Also I noticed that the idle needle is moving up and down slowly when the car is stop. Any idea about this?

I cleaned the injectors tow weeks ago, thinking it could be the problem, and the spark plug, spark plug cable are new.

Not sure how to adjust it, might be a plug into the computer job, however if you have the A/C on, the idle speed will vary as the compressor comes in and out.

Thank's jamesholden for your reply, but the needle comes up and down even the A/C is off.

I have the same problem with my camry, while stationary at the lights and engaged in drive (auto gear) the idle goes up and down sometimes.

Apparently there is no way to manually adjust the idle in these engines.

I have been told it might be worthwhile to clean out the idle air control valve but have not done it myself.

To correct the idle fluctuation problem you need to clean or replace the idle speed control (ISC) valve. Please see the answer from a Toyota expert for the similar problem: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Toyota-Repair-8...ry-Low-Idle.htm

You could adjust the idle speed easily. There is a rubber plug, which covers the idle speed control screw, on top of the throttle body. Just remove it and turn the screw counter clockwise to increase idle speed or otherwise.

I do not see a rubber plug on my 1999 Camry 4 cyl?

Per my mechanc's service manual, it does not look like myo 1999 Camry has a MAF sensor. My mechanic believes the 1999 Camry's Air Metering Device is built into the Throttle Body and cannot be serviced separately.
