Park Near A Curb? Expect Problems (apparently!)

When I first got home with my Avensis (56 plate) after picking it up, I noticed that two of the bolts were missing on the front bumber - one by the bonnet, the other by the off side wheel arch. This was causing the front bumper to not sit properly which is how I noticed it in the first place. So, I took it back in to be looked at, and now a few weeks later the entire undercarriage of the engine has fallen off and as was dragging on the floor, as well as more bolts missing from around the bumber. In fact, the underside of the car had folded over and I got stuck on my drive - unable to reverse! I had to call the RAC out to get them to come jack up my car, unfold the mess, and botch it back in place.

The dealer is telling me that that's because I park near a curb (?!?) and that it's a common problem (!). I park on a car park at work, not near a curb, and on my drive at home. I think he's clearly lying, but would like to hear if anyone else has ever had this problem, because it is common so I'm told, and if thats what you were told too?

Surely it must be something to do with the work they previously carried out?

Perhaps the warning sticker " do not park close to the kerb as this may damage your car" had fell off

I think the front bumper has to come off to change the headlight bulbs maybe it was a diy job by the previous owner or have you owned the car for sometime??

Sounds like a previous owner did not secure the front bumper properly after headlamp or bulb change if bolts were missing. To be honest parking by a kerb is utter nonsense and you should tell the dealer just that. I find it hard to believe they said that.

I hope you get it sorted out. Is the car under warranty?

I've never heard such a daft excuse in my life! Clearly the dealer lives in a field with no curbs for 10miles!
