Uneven Tickover

Hi newbe here just bought a 2004 1.8 T4 Estate Avensis in mint condition with Full toyota service history and absolutly love it , just noticed that when you stop at the lights the tickover goes from around the 900 mark to about 500 then back to around 900 again this goes on but does not konk out or anything like that although it feels like it might, any ideas thanks

The early Avensis had a problem with uneven tickover when the air-con was on. Mine has this but is rock-steady with the air-con off. Could be this?

My 03 T4 has this with the air con on, as I am having a new engine installed in it in a few weeks will be interesting to see if the tickover is more stable, will keep you posted

It'll be caused by the ECU so unless you're having that replaced at the same time as the engine then it probably won't make a difference

Hi

Had a 2000 model 1,8 with A/C.

It wandered from 900-600 rpms and only when A/C was on.

You could also hear a loudly clicking sound if i stood outside the car when the rpm went down.

I felt like it would stall but always went up to 900 again

Sounds like there could be something like this with your car even if its a 2004 model

Its defo related to the aircon checked it and it only happens with the aircon on so no probs now I know what it is theres no problems cheers Guys (Once again)
