Mp3 Connection To 2001 Corolla With Radio / Cassette And Separate Disp

I have a 2001 Corolla GS - 51 plate. It has the original WH8405 radio/cassette with separate display/control unit. It's made by Philips Germany with the following id:

Model No: 86120-02180

Ref: 22DC762/74

I would like to plug in my MP3 player but having looked into this do not favour going down the route of a wired fm modulator or one of those wireless fm transmitters. I've tried one of those cassette adaptors but it was pretty poor. From what I can gather an Aux adaptor will not go with my radio. I'd prefer to keep the original display/control unit in place and in use.

My manual illustrates how to cycle through tape/cd/cd changer/minidisc/minidisc changer by pressing the tape-cd button if you have all of those units attached. I'm not after all of these functions but would like to be able to cycle through tape (though wouldn't mind losing this)/cd/mp3 (via aux input?). Does anyone know what I would need to achieve this considering that I'd like to use the existing display/control unit? Presumably I'd be looking at second hand kit. If you can provide some advice with model numbers and/or where I can buy the equipment that would be great.

If no-one has a solution then I'll just have to admit defeat by buying a new radio/cd player with an aux input and make the display/control unit pretty much redundant.

Thanks.

aux-input sometimes can be very audio-quality poor.

i have pioneer 6900 in my e11 and it has 2 aux and ipod conn.

still, im playin mp3 discs...

of course, display/ctrl unit is still working (time, temp, computer)

If your MP3 player is an iPod then you can use one of the Dension Ice link plus kits. You can get it for Toyota specific head units... it connects directly to the cd changer socket and you can use the OEM head unit controls to change the iPod functions, select playlists etc... I have one for Sony specific head units, unfortunately I have a JVC installed in the Trueno....can still get audio , but lose the head unit control... it's a lot easier using the head nit than fiddling with an iPod dial....

My player isn't an Ipod, it's an Iriver which offers a headphone socket and line-out (with digital option).

However I go about it I'm not expecting to be able to control the Iriver from the car radio controls. Though, I would like to control the car radio, cd and select aux (for the Iriver perhaps) from the existing separate control/display unit.

Thanks for the replies so far.

OK, seeing as I've drawn a blank...

Can anyone tell me who the manufacturer is and provide the serial numbers from the original radio/cd that would have been in Corolla's from the same year as mine (2001) that will still work with the display/control unit. Might just resort to playing CD's rather than using my MP3 player.

Thanks.

i had installed a ipod ready one, however the central unit now only can be used to show the trip display, audio has become available on the cd player, you can consider one with a direct usb port on the face if you want. p.s. you need to give up the audio control of the onboard one
