How Should You Drive A Diesel..?

I have driven my first diesel now for about 6months. Have enjoyed each mile as if it was the first...blah blah blah...

Anyway, having driven a petrol engine for 10years you use certain methds to drive...

For instance;

Engine Braking. With a normal petrol engine you can use the engine as a brake when you down shift. But with a diesel wouldnt the turbo kick in?

There are a few more questions that I could ask, but we shall start with this one... :rolleyes:

cheers

If you mean kick in as it will make the car accelerate then no.

The engine continues to pump air through itself but since no fuel is being injected then no power is being produced and hence the turbo can't affect anything. Also without the fuel being injected into the chamber the high pressure gas needed to spin the turbo won't be pushed out of the exhaust. Only what is comparatively low pressure gas will exit which might reduce lag somewhat when you go back onto the throttle but again won't cause the car to accelerate
