Hi i'm a new member and am looking to buy a s/h avensis, but can't choose between a 2.2 T spirit or a T180

I currently drive a vw bora 130 tdi highline, has anyone else made this move? if so how does the performance/ecomomy compare? any other views?

I've not driven a 1.9 VW TDi (which I think yours is), but have driven two cars with the 2.0 TDi 140 - a Golf GT TDi and a Sharan. The Toyota 2.2 is immensely more refined and delivers its power in a much smoother way. Economy wise - it is easy to achieve over 50mpg from the 2.2 150 Avensis when driven gently, and high 40s when driven a little harder. But, if I were you, I would go for the T180 - more power, slightly less economy, and a nicer spec in my opinion (I'm no great fan of leather interiors).

Yup, I agree, if you can definately sacrifice economy for the power, it's well worth the extra cash! I've driven a Golf 1.9TDI 130BHP for about 6 months and I can tell you you will not be disappointed by the new Toyotas. On the motorway there is only one winner in my eyes.

Drove many of the vw range of diesels working for skoda and to be honest drove the new toyota line up of d4d's 130bhp 2.0 and 180 2.2 and they deliver there power much better than vw-group cars lot smother than fords tdci's. The t180 would be my choice the auris i drove fitted with that engine when like stink, and was very refined. My next avensis will be a t180 no questions asked. Which ever you pick be its 2.2 150bhp or 2.2 180bhp in my opinion you have one of the very best all round diesel engines on the market.
