Aa/rac Cover.

I wonder if any of you guys can share you experiences with me ? My AA subs are due and will cost me circa 95 quid.

I bought my XT-R in January and as such believe I am covered for twelve months by RAC through complimentary Toyota owners club.

Membership of TOC is 59 quid per annum, this includes some level of RAC cover. Has any one else opted for cover via Mt T rather than AA or RAC direct.I understand that AA have twice as many vehicles as RAC.

Driving around with a puncture repair kit rather than a spare still makes me a bit nervous.

I use the Club Toyota cover and it has also got me 5% off my Toyota Insurance (which I got for £321 in the end - very competitive).

Don't worry about the number of vehicles as they all seem hooked up to a national network of independants that are usually on the door step.

Cheers

I have used Club Toyota for the many years I have owned a Toyota !I think the cover is equivalent to the RAC top cover and as for how good they are I have never needed them(touch Wood)so I do not know.

There was a program on the box recently about the AA and it was implying allegedly that they had a been took over by private equity firm and were looking at ways to reduce costs

RAC all the way...Had used them this year and alsways got sterling service and quick response....HAd to have RAV recovered early part of year and RAC took care of everything....Even phoning to ensure all was ok....

Mine is due to expire end Aug and will be taking up the Toyota Mag offer....

Funnily enough I see more RAC vans than AA.......

I watched that program. BBC2 Money Programme special if I'm not mistaken. And yes, the AA have been taken over by a private equity firm. They seemed like very slippery characters, profit first, service and the customer along way down the list.

And the way they had taken mega bank loans to buy the AA in the first place, was beyond belief :censor:

Unfortunately, I had renewed with the AA before watching this programme (plus, it was pre RAV and therefore pre Club Toyota - RAC). Never again!

Only thing now is trying to work out which is cheaper, joining the RAC directly or via Club Toyota, too include my wife's non Toyota car (well it's nearly a Toyota, it's a Daihatsu) in the cover. I'll give that some thought nearer the time.

Happy driving :)

Fuj

I think the combination of the RAC and insurance discount make quite good value.

The cost of Club Toyota is £59 or £55 D/D.

Cheers

Scarily, it was SAGA (The OAP holiday company!!!!)

Just imagine if they go on a recruitment drive for mature staff :wheelchair: - You'd be alright as long as your car doesn't have any of those new fangled things on it like fuel injection, turbochargers or synchromesh!!!!

Oh, and just for my (sensible) input - Can't recommend the deal Club Toyota give highly enough!!!

This is ripped from "Wikipedia",

On 08 May 2007 the AA was the focus of the BBC's "The Money Programme". The sale of the company to the private equity firm CVC Permira was deeply crticised and the detrimental effect this has had upon the companies performance was exposed. Following the October 2005 buyout the company has been saddled with £1.3billion of debt and the number of patrols was cut significantly, with many of these cuts touted to be under unfair circumstances, a third of the 10,000 staff was cut in order to "improve efficiency". Mr Parker, the current chief executive has since admitted that the cut-backs were too great, and that with the increased work load in the 2006 summer they required more patrols.

It has since been announced that CVC Permira is looking to sell the AA for approximately £3bn marking a substantial profit, even after repayments of debt. On 25 June 2007 the company announced that it is to merge with another private equity owned company Charterhouse's Saga, which provides services including insurance and holidays to over 50s. The new holding company, which is yet to be named, will be owned by CVC, Permira, Charterhouse and staff. The deal valued the AA at £3.35 billion and the combined company will be worth more than £6 billion, making it the 20th largest company in the UK.

And people wonder why they are called asset strippers?

Happy driving :)

I opted not to renew my RAC cover with Club Toyota after the first year with a new car.

Instead of this I used some of my vouchers from Tesco Clubcard deals to pay for the RAC cover . They offer more than one type of cover from basic up to the most comprehensive. If you shop (family of 4 for us) at Tesco and buy fuel (two cars for us ) you can easily collect enough points in a year to pay for your RAC cover with points left over ( have also had free 2 night stay in a hotel with them and free tickets for Alton Towers and also Blockbuster DVD tokens )

Regards

PS I do not work for Tesco !! But I did have shares in the company a few years ago of which I wish I hadn't sold !!

If you bought it NEW at a GB dealer, it has one year club Toyota as standard, you dont get a membership card anymore, but the phone number is on a sticker on the screen and a copy should be in your service pack. You don't get RAC if you bought a parallel import from Europe. Kingo

I did! On a Yaris, imported via a company called one swoop, in (02) with a years cover and full Toyota warranty.

I now use an Insurance company called Footman James. All their policies AUTOMATICALLY include European breakdown cover. Good prices too, if you limit your mileage, they are very cheap :yahoo:
