I am considering buying an imported hybrid. Has anyone done this, and did you have any Battery damage as a result of the prolonged import process ie complete discharge of the batteries due to the import time from Japan to the UK?

hi there i dont own a prius myself but i am a qualified toyota mechanic. any Toyota hybrid vehicle should have an isolation plug with a fuse inside, located on the side of the HV (High Voltage) Battery, this is meant to be be remived during any repairs on the electrical side of the vehicle. However this should also be used during transportation. this will stop the Battery from loosing power, there is an auillary Battery which only the ignition and accesories which should aslo be disconnected. Make sure this is done as there is only 1 HV battery charger in the UK and Toyota Great Britian own it. :) mark

The transport time is what 6 weeks. I can not imagine the HV Battery would self discharge in that time anyway.

I left my Prius at an airport outside car park for 3 weeks in mid winter (daytime -5 to -10 C) daytime temp with the Battery at the bottom of the displayed range. When I returned the Battery and car worked perfectly normally. Just needed to scrape off a couple of inches of frozen snow and ice :(

My Prius suffered Battery dammage during the shipping from Japan.

There are a couple of theories on how it happened. If you want more details you can e-mail( I think it is possible to do that!).

However nobody is assuming responsability. I am trying to sue the seller in Japan but I need some help on how to go about it. If anybody has any previous experience please help.

By the way- replacing the Battery cost more than the car itself!!!!! Be aware!!!!

Hi toyotekk1

I have imported a Estima Hybrid 2001. It was perfect running, but when I gave it to an electriction for the fog light and imobliser fitting for sva test and registration. I gett a hybrid warning light on and the ingine was start stoping. It happens after 10-15 minutes, after resting it by disconnecting 12v battery and put it back on.

Toyota Great Britain said they don't have the technology to check it.

Can you Please Please help.

Regards
