Yaris Audio Upgrades

I will be picking up my 2002 Yaris T Sport next week, and I have heard that the audio side of the vehicle is less than impressive.

As a DJ, I'm expected to be offended by the sound output, however I know nothing about Car Audio or car audio products.

On a budget of say... £200, what should I go for in regards to upgrading the audio in my T-Sport :)?

pick up a headunit on eBay for about £100 id say id recommend sony or alpine

your not guna get much in the way of amped power for that budget

id say go for a good set of door Speakers and then a good pair of 6 b9's ( if u wanna cut the parcel shelf)

or just upgrade the 4" dash Speakers and 6.5" door Speakers wiring them in to the headunit

id say thats ur best bet for £200

you will be getting 4 * 50watts of power froma headunit rather than than the pathetic 12.5 watts the standard headunit kicks out

im selling ....................(No selling without paid membership..... ;) )

When i did mine i put in components in the front, put the tweeters in the dash panels and the woofers in the doors.

6x9s in a custom rear shelf but if i were to do it again i would have put components in the rear shelf as well instead of the 6x9's

replaced the head unit for one with USB MP3 as well.

Yo,

I would recommend, get a decent headunit - Yaris one sounds okay, but you can probably get one for £100 which has an Aux-In - this lets you connect a stereo to phono cable that lets you plug in an mp3 player.

Get Alpine over Sony (I have a Sony and I can't help feeling that it doesn't sound as good as it should).

I wouldn't worry too much about the rear Speakers unless you're looking for something loud as opposed to good soundquality. Get some decent Speakers for the front (components or coaxials, it doesn't make a HUGE different, and for your budget, coaxials will suit). Get the most expensive ones you can afford - I made the mistake of going for some cheap Speakers first time round and eventually bought some more expensive ones which sound a LOT better.

(The rear speakers make a difference, but unless you get high quality rear speakers, they will detract from the sound - I have mine set to a low volume compared to the front because it sounds pretty bad otherwise - they're really cheap 6 by 9s).

However, remember that changing from the standard Yaris headunit is going to cost you a bit more in adaptor faceplates (~ £50ish?) etc. So you would be fine just upgrading the front speakers (as long as you don't mind not listening to an mp3 player).

Hi,

In mine I replaced the head unit with a Sony which didn't make a great difference. I then replaced the door Speakers with some infinity 6512si's which made a big difference and I have recently removed the head unit but left the Speakers in. If I had replaced the Speakers first I would probably not have bothered with the head unit, although being able to play mp3 cd's was a bonus.

However, if the 2002 yaris is a P1 model, I will have the spare dash fascia, head unit and wiring harness adapter I am planning on rehoming in the near future.

Not that I upgraded myself as I thought the standard was pretty good, but when I wanted a Fiesta I researech into this. I was going to get Boston Acoustics S50's, they are component Speakers, and are supposed to have the best sound, (they have separate tweeters which could go in the small Speakers at the top of the dash). A new headunit (I liked the new Alpine iPod one, but thats expensive, any would probably be good as long as it has preouts). The if you amped the Speakers they should sound significantly better. The one I looked into was an Audison SRx2 which is supposed to be very good, but really an Component's, any matched amp and any good HU should sound good, I think the bottom line will be you get what you pay for.

This lot above will be over budget btw, I just thought links may help...

Note: Having said all this, each to their own, alot of people go for 6x9's and seem happy with them, so it's probably worth having a listen to peoples sound systems, perhaps at a meet or something?

You could make that budget £300 by selling the standard headunit on eBay! :)

I'd get a new headunit with the fascia adapter and all that and a decent set of components.
