Interesting article about green motoring, blowing the myths about 4x4's right out of the water. You can read it here. Sorry but it also mentions other makes, oooh wash my mouth out. Kingo

This one allways gets my dander up :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor:

If the gutterpress had any brains, they would realise that this is a top story rather than

the one they are talking bo**ocks about. 4X4's are killing the planet ? Yes Chatman lets

have a great big Jim Royle special MY AR*E. And dont get me started on road tax. My

mate has a 4 litre V8 Lexus. His road tax ? £175 a year because it was registered before

2001 or whatever. :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor:

I'm just off to take a tablet, then I'll be fine :censor:

Dave.

The problem is, people are not being allowed to differenciate between a Rav4 2.2D and a Range Rover V8 - They are all being classed as gas guzzling 4x4's by those (not) in the know.

I've had a couple of ill informed remarks from know nothing such an incredibly beautiful personts about my "Chelsea Tractor"!

But the more that people are made aware that modern diesel engined SUV's are pumping out no more, infact sometimes less pollutant into the world than percieved normal cars, the better because I really don't want to have to drive around in a 1.0 litre electric hybrid box!!

It makes me laugh, because Ken Livingstone (London Mayor if you haven't heard of the buffoon), has decided that he is going to let potentially 25,000 more cars a day into his C-Zone in London. If your car pollutes less than 120g/km it is likely to be free soon!!

Now thats all fine and dandy, except for the fact that the C for which you have to pay £8 per day in C-Zone stands for CONGESTION.

Am I missing the point, or was the C-Zone put in to ease traffic flow (reduce congestion) through the city, as well as reduce emissions.

I could rant all day on this topic.............. :!Removed!:

My D-4D never fails to impress me with it's economy. Even after nearly 7 months with my car, I am still amazed how many miles per gallon it will do for such a big car. And not only is it just a big car (ie MPV :shutit: ) it is a wonderful looking 4x4 that is great fun to drive.

Never thought I would ever get this many miles from a tank a fuel, especially since it was only a few years ago I was ripping the rubber off tyres, foot to the floor, bouncing off the rev-limiter boy racer! :D

It is annoying when people / the press just assume that a 4x4 is a gas guzzerling monster. But, has I say to the young apprentices in work "Assumption is the mother of all f :censor:-up's"

But reading that article, was very interesting. In all honesty, line up those ten cars and I would still choose the RAV every time.

Happy driving :)

I am still on my first tank of Diesel, but what can I expect from a tank ?

About ten gallons to the mile probably, depending on on the thickness of the armour. ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist the childish comment. My old 2002 4.2 was about 420 miles between fills. Depends on driving style, road conditions and how far you want to risk the low fuel warning of course. The 4.3 will do 450+ on a tank for me, without low fuel warning.

Depends on how you drive Baz......Should be looking between 38 and 44 mpg I would say...

I'm glad I don't live in London, with charges like those proposed. Mind you it's only a matter of time before we are all "stiffed" with a congestion tax..sorry, charge. Kingo

No, quite right - TAX

And while my feathers are ruffled what on earth is the point of taxing Brits £40 to £80 each when the rest of the world isn't charged. That isn't anything to do with the environment it is purely another tax. And what is the point of me paying extra for an Euro IV engine when the Chinese open coal fired power stations like popping corn?

It is a complete crock of s**t

Thats a nice little website you have found. I wonder how much that costs and I wonder if they recommend turning your computer off while you download it. We are the laughing stock of the world.

See my eye is twitching again!!!

Don't worry about 2012, the stadiums will be still be half built, the transport links still on the drawing board, the money will have run out and the IOC will have given the games to Orlando!

The people / competitors should be thankful the Beijing games are not in January. COLD! :crybaby: It's that cold and DRY in Beijing, in January, you are glad of the pollution to keep you warm

The pollution in Beijing is a problem let's be honest but they are willing to try radical ideas as well as spending vast fortunes putting in up to 200km of first class subway system before 2008, around Beijing. And another 250km of subway will be built after the Games, up to 2015. Plus all the other public transport improvements they are making.

Anyway pollution has never stopped a Games before in ... Los Angeles, Moscow or Athens.

Happy driving :)

I get very rattled when i watch TV and some stereotypical reporter is going on about 4x4's in London ( or other city's ) and how Ken is going to tax them off the road, IT NOT JUST 4X4's but all big engine vehicles traveling around our city's, weather it a V8 4X4 or super car or BMW or Mercedes limo they all add to green house gases so if your going to tax one group off the road ,you have to tax them all.

..And as for all these f**king tree huggers going on about 4x4 melting the ice caps single handed, it makes me spit fire, the range of 4x4's on our UK roads range from the Panda Right up to a Mercedes M-class AMG , thats a c/o range from 156 up to 392.

As for my RAV4 as an example 2.0 VVT-i auto ,thats a c/o of 211 , so that's seen by the tree huggers as a polluting 4x4 , yet a a top of the range ford focus ( c/o 224 ) or mondeo ( c/o 222 ) and i could list loads more saloon cars and MPV that are worse.

Lets start at the other end of the market , Ferrari 612 (c/o 475 ), Aston Martin V8 Vantage (c/o 406 ), Lamborghini Murcielago ( c/o 500 !! ) ban all them from our roads first and give 4x4's a break.

Okay I'm taking deep breaths and getting off my soap box :thumbsup:

No rant there Bob, very well put over

Unfortunately, 4x4's have become an easy target for the press. They are not going to pick on families driving MPV's, they are not going to target saloon / hatchback drivers and fear alienating most of there viewers / readers. Luxury sports / saloon car drivers are rich enough not to care what the press say, so no point targeting them. White van man is so thick skinned, it would be wasted effort moaning to them about melting ice caps. So the press are left with us 4x4 drivers as the satans of the world.

With the RAV (and the other 4x4's in the orginal article) at least we can drive around with a clear conscience, even if nobody else knows that we are no more polluting then they are.

Happy driving

No No No just seen this....AutoSpies

I like the comment "My mom has a Toyota Rav 4 diesel and it actually gets close to 70 mpg. My dad drives a Honda CRV 2.2i-CTDi and it only averages something like 19 mpg at best. Clearly Toyota makes the best diesel engines (and cleanest too)."

Chatman,

Hope your dad takes Honda back to dealer, my 2007 Honda 2.2 i-CDTi seldom gives less than 40 mpg usually 44. My Toyota 2.0 D4D computer shows 45 -48 mpg most journeys BUT speedometer is out by 10% reads 80mph when true speed 70mph. Had quite a few discussions about this with Toyota but rule is 10% plus 2mph and tyey refused to do anything about it. So if computer out by dame ammount it would be 41-43mpg.

If you read T180 run flat tyre thread you will see why second car was Honda. Still like my Toyota and if tyre situation changes!!! Toyota WILL be another Toyota next year.

Druand....

The quote was from the Topic posted link...Not my DAD   He drives a 4 year old Tiptronic 307 (working on them to buy an Auris :D :D )

Honda makes some outstanding cars and the V-Tec engine is brilliant and the S2000 the best convertible...... But the C-RV is just Ugly (my opinion no one else's, although a few other's have expressed this   ) You own two of the best Diesel engines in the business and Honda have only been building Diesels not very long... They will always compare the RAV against the Honda and Suzuki etc etc..and label them NASTY :ffs: 4X4, but we know they are different and would not drive anything else.....(and I used to drive a Renault Megane II the big ars* one...but shhh keep that between us ;) ;) )

Will not start a Toyota V Honda debate as both are great performers. What an absolutely brilliant vehicle could come from the best of both.

Really should get some rear window stickers made.
