Help With Avensis 2002 D4d Audio System

Hi,

I've got the 2002 Hatchback Avensis D4D and I just wondered what after-market mods I can do to the audio system without ripping it out and starting from scratch with a new head unit.

Is it possible to replace the tweeters/door Speakers and change the car's amplifier for a more powerful one to improve bass/volume levels or is the only way to do this to bring in the sub/amp sets from people like Sony?

I was thinking to upgrade the tweeters, and change the door Speakers for smaller mid-range ones and then add 6x9's in the parcel shelf to bring the bass back which I would lose by changing the door Speakers.
