Hi Peter

I have just collected my first 100 litres of used cooking oil to go in my surf and was wondering how you filtered yours and how many times, I have access to about 160 litres per month if i require it and it's free

cheers

Paul

stick to a ratio of 60/40 derv /oil to be safe , run neat 100 % oil once heated up if u like. surfs run all day on veg , just dont start up too good or at all if you use too much veg oil.

I ain't the sharpest tool in the box,so when you say 60/40 what exactly do you mean.and how do i go about mixing it.this might seem like a daft question.....but as i said...cheers CROFTY.

with veg now as dear as derv its a pointless exercise , but if you insist on trying use 10 litres of veg to 30 litres of derv . Increase the svo to say 20 litres to 30 litres of derv in the summer

Hi, guys. I bought a 2.5 and not too sure if I did the right thing. I keep looking at the fuel gage, so I am thinking of veg oil too. With a trip to France fairly soon and towing 500kgs (box trailer) with history of the surf missing, I am not looking forward to it especially to the South. Anyway what is the update on experience from members regarding derv/veg oil and where can I get it? Also known for the head gasket to blow around 100 000 is that miles or kilometres? More worried now, What about breaking down in France with the toy. I am French and that is about the only thing I would get away with!!! Going back to the subject how long running on Veg oil would it run until I have got to blow in the inlet pipe coming from the tank to unclog it and drain the petrol tank all together? Cheers Guys my brain is cooking now, but doesn't yet smell veg oil.

mine runs fine n 60/40 mix of new oil , not found a reliable surce of used , ive done a few thousand miles with no trouble , with the cost of new oil its hardly worth it now anyway , as for cylinder heads blowing , mine hasnt and ive got over 112k miles on the clock , it doesnt use water or oil and seems ok , i get 25mpg around town and 32 mpg on motorway , just have a light right foot , as for surfs in france , i have no idea but surely toyota have used these engines in other models so i wouldnt worry to much , join the rac or the aa , just n case !!!!!!!!!!!! . ive had all sorts of cars in the past but reckon a surf is great to drive , they just have a few foibles , enjoy your trip , peter

Cheers Buddy. I don't get it many people manage to get over 20m/gallon around town according to the forum and I 'd be lucky to get that. There must be something to do! the engine or the automatic gear box is raving like hell every time i pull away from the traffic lights even so I keep as you say my right foot very light. Cannot imagine what it is going to be like when I go and collect my box trailer tomorrow morning, mind you I will soon find out (it is 20 miles away from where I live). I realise now I should have bought the 3 litres. So to get back to the subject, you don't need a piece of kit or a conversion to run the toy on vegetable oil? just watch the filter and may be clean the tank ones in a blue moon? Thanks to everybody from this forum, I don't feel being all by myself with my big lump ticking over next to me B)

no modifications needed to run on veg oil , just pour it into fuel tank and off you go , ive never needed to change my fuel filter or anything else and ive done around 4k miles with oil ,am now running straight derv till i can find some cheap oil ,as for fuel consumtion my 2.4 is pretty good considering i do a lot of short journeys and the running costs are no more than any new large car , the 3 litre engine is supposed to be a lot better than the 2.4 and there is not much difference in fuel consumption. i find it best to let the auto box shift gear as early as possible , if you need more acceleration use the ect button to hold on to the lower gears the knock it off when you have reached the cruising speed you want. enjoy your toy ! have fun . peter
