Oil Maint. Now

Last night, the day after its 20k service, the above warning came up on the dash of my 4.3 XT4 D-4D. Spoke to the dealer who thinks the tech forgot to reset the computer after changing the oil (which I know was changed). I can clear the warning with the RH button but it reappears each time I start up - so it could get annoying. The dealer will be phoning me back but those who do their own maintenance must have a way around this without getting a diagnostic computer - how?

Steve,

According to the 4.3 factory manual the procedure to reset the oil replacement reminder light is:

a. Set the display to TRIP A

b. Turn ignition off

c. Press and hold odo/trip switch and turn on the ignition switch

d. After turning on the ignition switch keep holding the switch (I assume it means the odo/trip switch, no the ignition!), for at least 5 seconds.

Not tried it yet myself, so no idea whether it actually works. Hope that's what you wanted?

Used to have the same problem with my Dad's Micra, but after a bit of combination button holding guess work, we found out how to do that one. Thankfully, he's recently been converted to a Yaris!

Cheers

That's fixed it - thanks. The dealer phoned be back this morning with [almost/i] that sequence - but he forgot to tell me step (a)! And yes, (d) is to keep pressing the odo/trip - you get a different display when the panel comes on and a bar that counts down, followed by a message confirming it's reset.

These various settings are quite useful - would be handy if they could be posted somewhere for TOC members (who, generally, should be more than motor hackers and be able to use them properly).

Thanks again :toast:

I believe its in the manual but this is from the service data;

Resetting Maintenance Req'd light.

Turn the key to the 'on' position.

Press the trip button meter until it displays the “Trip A”odometer.

Turn they key to the off position.

Then while holding the trip meter down, turn the key to the 'on' position. 4 blinking dashes will display and they will count down.

When the last dash disappears 000000 is displayed to indicate the maintenance counter has been reset.

Cheers

Sorry to repeat you my screen has gone a bit heywire and the replies have gone in to a drop down box at the bottom.

How do I get rid of it somebody???

Steve

I suggested that I could share my archive with members to Giddlepin who is a moderator. He said it was a good idea but never answered how I can upload them as that thing on the forum doesn't seem to work.

bt knows how to do it because he showed us an adobe file.

bt - how is it done please?

Regards

Not a problem for me Anchorman, a valid reason and the main thing is Steve got his answer either way.

And thanks to Anchorman, too - it's the thought that counts. Haven't seen those instructions in the handbook - will need to read through it next time I'm stuck in a traffic jam or waiting for the missus...
