You'll have to trust me on this;

If you ask in metric you need a 10mm socket because it is measured accross the thread (it is actually 16mm accross the flats).

If you ask in imperial you need a 5/8" because it is measured accross the flats. The latter is more unusual unless you are "Stateside".

It will become apparent when you buy your socket!

Cheers

so i could buy either 5/8 or 16mm , but 16mm is more common in europe and i would find it easier to purchase a 16mm in my local motor factor shop. i actually have the haynes(american version) manual but i does not mention what size plug socket i need .

I might have complicated matters.

Obviously the difference between a spark plug socket and an ordinary deep socket is the rubber insert without which you will almost definately break the insulator.

If you go to any supplier of tools and ask for a 10mm plug socket you will get the right thing. You only have to tell them if you want 3/8" or 1/2" drive.

Cheers
