'fraid not, still haven't been to bed - been watching some Stargate whilst installing an OS on another PC.

PC has been logged onto TOC for the last couple of days continuously.

It's merely 1 tab amongst many.

well, I don't know what is up with your forum admin panel but this PC has been logged into TOC all night (in fact it's actually had 2 tabs logged into TOC as I've got 1 on a particular thread).

Of course there is a difference between being logged in & active but it's definitely been logged in all the time otherwise I would have had to enter username & password again (which I didn't).

Quite simple really...................If you are "logged in" to TOC...................your little figure at the top left of your avatar is illuminated.

If you are "Just lurking" and not logged in..........it is not..................There is also a list of logged on and active members available to the moderating team

For most of last night, your little figure was not illuminated, and you did not show on the list.

There is no fault with the forum admin panel.

I can assure you that my PC was on & my browser logged in (2 separate tabs) all night.

I suspect that your forum software only shows someone as logged in if there has been some activity within a certain timeframe. Most other forums will time your session out & you will have to log back in but TOC doesn't do that.

I was still logged in as evidenced by the fact that I didn't have to reenter username & password when I came back to post ~5.40am.

I have been off later this morning as I was doing some stuff on this PC which required rebooting & not surprisingly I had to log back in after that.

P.S. I'm a moderator on a no. of forums so I have a good idea of how moderator control panels work & what is available on them.

I tried something earlier:

left Opera logged in without me being active for ~12 hours.

came back, still logged in in Opera but opened IE which didn't show me in the "user(s) active in the past 15 minutes" section on the forum index page.

In Opera clicked on "View New Posts" which duly refreshed with upto date info (you have to be logged in for that to work).

Refreshed IE which still didn't show me as active even though I had just been ...

Clearly something isn't quite right with the way that the forum software tracks logged in users.

My guess would be that it's timing out users sessions internally but not actually logging them out?

The forum tracks 'Actual' page requests by user. So even when left on the forum index after 15/20 minutes without a page request to you user account, thats it, you are as far as the board is concerned, no longer active :)

Sadly other than chat sessions/java applets etc I dont see a way round this for you unless there is an option or plugin for opera/firefox that will allow automatic page refreshing after a period of time, say 10 minutes.

On another note, the !Removed! security guard at my office wasnt in so couldnt drop off my priority mail! !Removed! bugger. That means I'll have to go @ 7:30am. pfffffffffft. Ah well managed to go for a cheeky drive and fine tune 1st to 2nd shifts ready for 'Le Pod'.
