just getting used to my avensis i bought 48 hours ago.

the clutch biting point seems to be right at the floor, and its a little heavy.

also a little tight moving into 1st or reverse.

anyone compare notes on if this is the norm with this model or should i have it checked?

any comment much appreciated.

I have a petrol 1.8 and mine clucth is about halfway and flows in and out like silk. The gearbox flows freely though are gears with a postive feel. May help if you let us know what engine yours is and gear box. In 2006 the avensis had a facelift so if its a 2.0 diesel facelift it will be a different one with a 6 speed box not 5 speed like the older ones.

of course, doh.

i have a 2006 1.8 petrol.

it drives ok, but 1st is tight (but goes in with a slight nudge) at times and the clutch does feel a little heavy while the bite is practically on the floor.

all the other forward gears are smooth, but again reverse is a little bit of a manovre, although suppose most cars are.

i do feel that maybe the clutch or something is on its way out.

Nice to see someone else from good old Northern Ireland on the toyota forums i am a taxi driver from antrim and i drive a toyota avensis, the clutch in my avensis was not to bad but i had this problem when i go to take of to quick, i get this snatching feeling from first to second gear,i took my car to charles hurst and they told me i needed a new clutch so i let them put a new one in, the clutch in my car was a floating clutch if you have ever heard tell of one,but i got them to put a solid flywheel in because i have been told that the floating clutch was rubbish and in my type of work i need something reliable, to cut a long story short the clutch was super you could push it in with your finger! on the downside i never got rid of the snatching from first to second gear.Deakin

thanks for your input.

think i will have them look at it.

i only picked the car up thursday and its booked in this wednesday because of a steering issue.

it also left the showroom with a headlight bulb out.

i bought from hurst too, Dundonald.

I am dissapionted as these flaws prove the care was not as 'approved' as i thought it was. Seems they checked nothing because it came from Toyota in England - who obviously didnt check it because they were punting it on to Charles Hurst.

still love the car, as long as they sort these issues out properly.

[it also left the showroom with a headlight bulb out.]

Believe it or not it is not an easy process to change headlight bulbs on an Avensis - see related threads on this forum! I'd asked them to change the other bulb as well while they are at it, even if you have to contribute towards the cost.

Glad you like the car. Let us know how you get on.

will do.

i considered changing the bulb myself, i am an impatient sort - but when i clapped eyes on all the gear in the way i thought i would leave it to the experts!
