New Yaris Sr

Hi everybody

I'm interested in a new style Yaris SR 1.8, was wondering if anyone has got one and what their thoughts are on it. I had a phase one SR so looks like i might be coming full circle!

Also, is there going to be a T Sport version? (had one of them too) I've been away from Toyota for a while so am a bit out of the loop on whats happening

Thanks

Toyota say that there are no plans for another T Sport.

The 1.8 SR is their hottest Yaris at the moment although there is talk of a possible compressor version

The T Sport name has been dropped by Toyota for the European market.

The 1.8 SR is a nice car. It has loads of safety features (9 airbags! ABS BA EBD ESP Traction 5* NCAP etc) Keyless, 17” alloys, body kit. The list goes on.

actually, the 1.8 sr is the yaris TS!!! only in britain its called SR 'cause it just doesn't proves to be a good YTS.... I agree with that. the 1.8 yaris, specially compared to its opponentes, its just too little in power for the hot-hatch it should be...

even though, its better than the 1.3 or 1.5 yaris :P

Thanks for that. i'm going for a test drive soon so will get a better idea then. i hope its as good as the YTS i had a while back, that thing flew.

cheers

Hey!

I've had the new 1.8 SR since begining of July (so i have had it 2 full months nearly)

It's a really good drive! I wasn't looking for a sporty car, was looking more for comfort (My bro is a big boy and he doesnt feel cramped in my car)!

It ticks all the right boxes (i had an old shape yaris and this one makes up what the old one lacks)

I have been told it's not as fast or as powerful as some of the rival small cars (but i dont care, it has more oomph than my old yaris!)

I love my new yaris, i dont have to rummage for the keys in my handbag! (brilliant invention - keyless entry!)

The boys are impressed with my car when i go out ( i have no idea why? they all want a go! Pulling power  )

The more I think about it the more I want one especially with the recent discussion about VSC on the Avensis forum. It has been slated in the motoring press but for the wrong reasons. The performance is on par with the old T Sport. As long as you go into it knowing it’s not a hot hatch (which I don’t want anyway) then I think I won’t be disappointed.

There are a lot of plus points which the media seem to forget to mention. The chassis is 50% stiffer than the phase one, its subtle which I like, I don’t want an in ya face roaring pocket rocket which will last 5 minutes in the supermarket car park.

Must organize a test drive

Do it! Organise a test drive!

When i test drove mine they let me have the test drive car for 2 days!

Loved it compared to the other cars i test drove!

Tested the Suzuki Swift Sport - too small (not enough space for shopping- and a girls gotta have enough space for a trip to bluewater!), seating was stiff (bro couldn't fit!), made too much noise (ok sports car, but i'm a girl!)! - Insurance band 9 (too expensive!)

Civic Type R - too big (for me), gearknob in the wrong place! insurance band 17 (WTF)!

Yaris 1.8 SR - only insurance band 7, all the saftey features and just the right size (for ickle me!)

:D am i a good sales person?

I agree with you, I’m already sold! The Suzuki has a good write up but does badly in the Thatcham security tests.

What I like about the SR are the bits you don’t see but are working behind the scenes. Traction, VSC, Brake Assist etc. Nine air bags!

I like the 17” rims as well, no need to upgrade, and I like the idea of the push button start. Are you anywhere near me as I’m in London too?

I am near Heathrow!

Was told by the dealership (Currie Motors A4 Great West Road) that mine was the first 1.8 SR they sold (so far - that was July)

Yep i agree i love the 17" alloys (though my parking is really bad! - i'm a girl!)

9 airbags makes you feel safe (hopefully will never have to use them!)

Could do with a bigger spoiler - my old Yaris had a mean spoiler (try to get the big one thrown in! i got mats, tinted windows, scuff plates and they did all the cherished plates transfer for me)

Try one! :D Then buy one

I think the new yaris SR would compliment my T-Sport Corolla as a 2nd car for the wife. She doesn't drive my car as its too powerful for her so the SR would be a good compromise. We currently have a 1.2 Micra which she drives but would like to change that for the new Yaris SR at some point.

I took a test drive last week but have decided against it getting one. Don't get me wrong, its a cracking car and it looks the dogs knackers but i just don't think i could live with having to thrash the nuts off it all the time. i had a corolla T sport which i loved red lining (lovin' the lift!) but after a while i got fed up of the ringing ears. This will sound daft considering the amount of poke its got, but I think the car is a little underpowered for its size. Now if it had a turbo, then it would be a different story....

Anyhoo, thanks for all your comments

Cheers

I should be replacing my First gen SR with a new SR 1.8 next week :)

Lovely pictures of one there, did you get the front windows tinted as well? I'm planning on getting mine done in the winter.

I've driven it a couple of times and ahve to say I love it. I was looking at a Auris TR 2.0D-4D right up untill I caught the petrol head bug again.

My only two complaints.... no elecy windows for the back (5door) which is superficial really... but my main complaint is the fact its not got a turbo :0

Not that it's putting me off because theres plenty of power for what I need commuting... just... if there was a turbo version I think that would make the car perfect in my eyes! :0)

Thinking about getting the Motorsport spolier for it as well, possibly in winter when I get the windows done tho :0

Will post piccys when I take delivery!

Are you saying front windcreen or front windows, mine were factory tinted side and rear so everything BUT the front windscreen (may look light at the front cos of light going through front windscreen

I am thinking of a sportier spoiler too, like i said the one it comes with is not even as big as the spoiler that was on my old gls

Its a 5 door, but i do wonder why i got a 5 door? dont normally have passengers

Please wait a few seconds for Video to load!

3 doors all the way. I hate taking passengers. Your car looks great.

Yeah sorry, I mean't the front passenger and Driver side! I'm getting mine done with Toyota as well, but I was told they would be reluctant to do the passenger/drivers side windows because it can lead to insurance companies arguing the toss about whos to blame or something... and then theres the whole legality of the front windows I cant remember what the legal light density was.... anyway.. yeah I was just wondering if you had the front two done as well and did it affect your insurance much? ;0

-Edit- Just found this :- http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repository...0Nov%202005.pdf which was why I was asking!

Yeah it's a funny thing those spoilers.... the one that comes on the SR 1.3/1.4 is much bigger and better looking then the 1.8 which is odd?!

I'm getting the 5 door as It's gonna be more practical for my needs heh. I do like the 3 Door one though. :)

I got my tints done by Toyota, they done it without any argument (I asked for it as a free extra) its quite dark, really good in car parks, as I leave the golf clubs in the back seat and no one can see them!

Insurance had no problems with it, I said tinted sides a rear

Also what I realised didn't come on the 1.8SR is the scuff plates that come on the 1.3/1.4 SR

You gotta haggle to get what you want, haggle for a spoiler, tints, mats, scuff plates! (Just as much as you can! they may turn down giving you a bigger spoiler, but worth a try)

5 doors is defiantly more practical, not that I have passengers much, but when I do have them, I don’t have to remember to let them in first! (Good for my parents as they are getting old and hard for them to crawl in and out of a 3 door)

Answer to T V O R 's question - have to say i'm not sure what the Horn on my SR sounds like yet, as i have not used it! (prob a girly honk)

Aye, I've got a fair amount of free stuff outta my local toyota dealer..

anyway... thing is tho... do a quick google search and theres some horror stories of the VOSA stopping cars with tints at the front and pretty much serving them an on the spot unfit for the roads notice thing.

Some guy bought a range rover sport with tints at the front (actual tinted glass not film) and hes now having to pay the cost of getting the glass replaced....

Toyota tinted the windows at factory for me and i thought it is an offence to sell illegal tints so i hope toyota hasn't done it

Front side windows must let in 70% of light and i think it does as the front windscreen is not tinted at all there is plenty of light

*touch wood* have not been pulled over yet in over 2 months
