Scratch

Discovered a 2ft mark on my Corolla at the weekend. :( I think it might have been a coin and has produced an almost white-ish mark. It doesn't look like it's gone down to the metal but when I run my finger nail across it I can feel tiny indentations.

The finish is carlo metallic blue. I've heard that Meguirs ScratchX is a good polish. Do people think that this would be good start to trying to fix this problem ?

It depends how deep the scratch is, no amount of polish will bring back the appearance of paint, however, if it is only a light scratch, it might be worth giving it a go. If it doesn't work, I fear a paint job maybe required. Take a look here at the service we offer, it's not cheap, but neither is painting the side of your car, :( Best of luck. Kingo

I cleaned it down and I think the polish is do-able. The scratches within the mark are very fine - still not exactly sure

what caused it.

I'll report back after the ScratchX treatment.

Is this the stuff made by Farecla ? Is it ok to use on metallic paint ? Do you know if it's generally considered to be more aggressive than scratchx ? I'd like to be gentle to start with :D

I've just read the Meguiars site FAQ's and they do say that if you can feel the scratches with your finger nail you'll probably need a professional job ..

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I decided to adopt a cautious strategy and start with ScatchX with G3 as the fallback option. Glad to report that ScatchX did the job.

I liked the way I had to put in a fair amount of elbow grease - :P - before I got the results as this made me feel in control. I'd been worried about

going through the lacquer and loosing shine but this didn't happen. It's just like new so I'm very happy. :)

Good result then mate. The scratch must have been really fine because I've found ScratchX to be pretty useless. I was better off using autoglym super resin polish.
