Stereo Problem

Very hard to describe this problem - after running for a while the music on the stereo starts to jump a bit like a bad vinyl record. It is so quick that there is no noticeable silence or gap but the music is interrupted for a split second. This can happen once in an hour or 5 times in a minute - there is no pattern. It happens on radio, cd and on the iPod with the connector.

This is the latest 07 touch screen full colour sat nav audio system.

I've reported the fault and am taking the car to Mr T later this week for investigation. As it's intermittent the chances are Mr T won't find it.

Anyone else had anything similar so I can point Mr T in the right direction??

Well, as expected Mr T cannot find fault but the car will go back next week for more tests.

I am wondering if this has something to do with the Toyota iPod connection though. Some people on the other forums have had trouble.

The iPod is a series 4 and it should work fine, the intermittent tiny sound loss only seems to come in after 15 minutes or so of constant use.

Has anyone else had iPod or head unit problems with this connector?

How did you get the ipod connection? I have the colour sat nav with mp3 via cd, but I didn't know you could have a ipod/other connections? (Mines a 2.0D TR -2007)

For reference, I have had slight skipping on the mp3 playback via cd. I had previously thought it was to do with a dirty mp3 cd - but perhaps not.

Interesting that you too have the slight skipping on CD. That would seem to show that it isn't my external iPod connector that causes the problem.

Does it happen with ordinary CDs or just mp3s? Mine appears to skip sound on the radio as well.

The iPod connector is a Toyota accessory that costs about an arm and a leg fitted. Around £170 I think. It uses a spare output on the back of the head unit. It seems to be the same as the Connect2 device some owners have used but I can't be certain.

Other than the skipping, the sound quality of this head unit is excellent with the iPod but it has very limited controls and track information and isn't really value for money. In retrospect if Toyota had a decent mp3 CD-changer I would have gone for that option.

Normal CDs appear to be fine, although I do listen mostly to my mp3 cds. Both are on CDRs rather than proper CDs so it can't be that causing the problem. I havn't had the problem on the radio (yet) - but again I mostly listen to the mp3 cds.

Thanks for the info about the Toyota accessory. I have used a Connect2 converter before and got really good sound quality. So maybe I'll try them first.

Another question... on mine the satnav lady comes out of the left speaker - is there a way of getting her to come out of the right side?

Good question. I assume the sat nav lady is on that side for a reason, maybe designed for LHD. I don't have any bother hearing her though - trouble is she doesn't seem to listen to me! Rather like another lady I know. :D

Well, one new stereo later and the problem seems to be solved. The volume is higher too so I guess there must have been some kind of fault on the amplification side. The sound quality is now very good and no mini jumps either.

The iPod still fails to register as a cd changer on the stereo occasionally but I think this is down to the iPod. Sometimes they take a few seconds to find the right spot on their hard drive and in the meantime the audio has come on, searched for a 'cd changer', found nothing and carried on. If the iPod doesn't register it means stopping the car, switching off and re-starting the engine. The only way to prevent this seems to be to make sure the iPod has just been paused on a track before switching the ignition on.

All well and good but you need arms like a gorillas to reach the iPod in the glove box. Why don't they fit it with a longer lead or put it in the cubby hole on top of the dash?

Hi Desmond 22.

Sorry for this late answer, but I usually read and write only in the Spanish Avensis forum, by the way a very active forum. Only from time to time I have a look at this UK forum.

This mini-jumping while listening to the CD or ipod disappears when you disable the AF mode in the radio. Very funny, isn't it? I disabled it and since then I've never had the problem again. So I guess that it came from the software version of the satnav system

Regards
