Side Steps

Cannot decide whether to buy side steps or not. Gordon Lamb Chesterfield quoted £350 fitted. After market steps seem to be a rarity for a 4.3.

May buy and fit myself but do not fancy lifting carpets to insert bolts.

Who thinks Side Steps look better? :help: (thinks may keep the side of the car cleaner  )

Regards

Terry

When I bought my RAV back in 1994, all available extras were fitted. The sidesteps were the first and only thing to fall off due to corrosion ! They were genuine Toyota in black but were mud traps. If you're going to fit them, make sure that if they do trap muck, you wash it out.

have fun

Terry, like you I pondered over steps or bars on my 4.2. In the end I opted for both :D

well bars with rubber steps. If you look at the Rav photo thread you can see the type

I bought, or I can post another for you. I also done a thread on fitting, think it was called

fittingside bar/steps, if you do a search. To be honest, I did not like the look of theToyota

OEM steps. If you look at the website for direct4X4 you will see the type I got but on a 4.3.

As for fitting, well I have had them on and off a couple of times, and as they say a little

knowledge goes a long way. You dont need to touch the carpet or any interior trim. As I

found out after making little cuts in my carpet, all fitting can be done from underneath.

If you opt for the Toyota ones they are a doddle to fit, only half the bolts. If you ask

Anchorman nicely he will paste the Toyota accessories website on here which shows fitting

instructions.

Good luck

Dave.

Dave

I have seen your instructions for fitting hence my reluctance re carpets.

The steps shown in 4x4 direct on the 4.3 are out of stock I emailed them, they said not expected for several months. These I would prefere.

I have seen the fitting instuctions for the Toyota accessories OEM steps. Presumably the elongated hole that is turned through 90 degrees is the way it is fitted from underneath.

Thanks for your help

There you go Terence.

http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/aimupload...AIM%20530-1.pdf

No lifting of carpets necessary with a 4.3 you just have to drop the plastic shields from underneath. The bolts have an oval head that you turn through 90 deg to lock in position.

Designated fitting time is 30 mins per side but that is probably off a lift. Drive each side onto two pieces of 4X2 and allow yourself an hour a side and you will be laughing.

We just need Kingo to come up with something spectacular on these side steps and you've cracked it.

Enjoy

Terry,

The side steps were already fitted to my RAV but I do think the car looks better with them fitted and the combination of the side steps and mudflaps definately keeps the side of the car cleaner. :yahoo:

A good hose down of the underside, just like you would with the wheelarches, to keep them mud free and your good to go

I still plan to fit sidebars with steps in to my T180. Can't remember the site I keep looking at, but suspect it's the same as mentioned above, as they never seem to have stock. Not too keen on the look of the oem steps, as i think they are too wide. However, if Kingo comes up with an exceptionally good price, I may be tempted :)

Too wide  Let put it this way, the good lady wife, a little shorter than average hieght has never caught the back of her trousers on the Toyota's side steps when getting out of the car. Something she was always doing get out of the BMW, with the resulting dirty marks on her trousers and dirty looks shot at me! :2guns:

I don't know if they are too wide or not, on a practicality front.

Purely from aethetics (sp?) I think they look too wide (IMHO).

These are the ones I want ot get, eventually.

Come on Kingo weve all turned purple holding our breath.

I prefer Toyota ones to some of the others shown here mainly because of the warranty. That still appies if we fit them ourselves???
