Nice to have a "friend" in the trade on board our forums parts-king. Especially one who is a Main Dealer, tell me why your,e leaning towards the Rav 4 forum?

On the subject of parts my Dad is really keen on the power chip for the T180 we have, 2 questions - will it make a massive difference to our Insurance premium with one fitted (we are insured by Toyota Insurance) and would I have to get the Main Dealer over here (Caledonian Toyota ) to fit it?

I ordered a set of side steps from direct 4 x 4 on Monday delivered yesterday, the fitting instructions are not good BUT I have already fitted the brackets with absolutely no hassle, pull out the large rubber grommets, insert an oblong bar with a bolt through it place a spreader on the end of the bolt and tighten the nut, easy peasy, the rest is just as easy, all the fittings use existing holes which are usually hidden under grommets or underseal, once I've finished I will re seal using waxoil.

Had similar ones on my Shogun for the past 17 years no problem with corrosion or anything else, really do protect the side of your car from the car park cretins B)

Received a reply from Pentagon

"we can supply the steps you require at a cost of £216.91 inc vat and carriage "

Not bad will go for these I think unless Kingo can better on Tuesday ;)

How much of a saving is that then?

Fitted price by my dealer was £350. Therefore at that price they require £133 for fitting. Toyota fitting time = 1 hour.

I expect Kingo will beat this by a mile.

Come on Kingo you purchased these steps and they will be delivered Tuesday, but you do not know the price until you receive them?

I know my buying price but as stupid as it sounds, I dont know my carriage price until they land. I have just finished my contract with parcelforce who think they can stiff me for a doubling in their prices. Did you know if I get a parcel collected from elsewhere and returned to me it costs nearly treble the rate?, robbing b :censor: s, lol. Will let you all know the price when they eventually land. I expect the price to be £180 ish. I have one set of steps and two sets of bars coming, I think???? they are for 5 door models, anyway, part numbers and prices TBA on arrival. Kingo

As previously posted I orderded a set from Direct 4 x 4, and although the instructions are not perfect, they went on in 40 minutes (20 minutes per side ;) easy peasy).

I Found it was even easy enough to refit the large rubber grommet to complete a seal, all I did was cut a cross in the grommet with a small sharp knife (normal Health and safety caveat) put the internal spreader on the bolt and refit the grommet, offer it up to the underside and manouver the spreader through the bodywork, then refit the grommet to the bodywork, put the external spreader plate on and secure with a washer and nut.

If your struggling lay out the items, the brackets are stamped, and IMHO the rst is chidsplay B)

Mine are still in transit I'm afraid, 9 days to come from Herts, anyway, Parcelforce have been sacked by me! I cannot believe they have been so poor on this collection, normally they are very good. Apparantly, they have now turned up a further twice to collect the same item, :censor:

I am expecting delivery imminantly, maybe, lol

I didnt know I was leaning towards RAV4, maybe it's because it is a popular model and we sell quite a few accessories for them, who knows, anyway, the chip kits are easy to fit and could be done by anybody with mechanical knowledge. if you tell your insurance company, I'm sure they would like to charge you more, your call ;) Of course, I am duty bound to tell you, you must inform your insurers! The kits boost the power by a minimum of 20%, further details can be found here

If you intend to fit a chip you are best contacting your insurance company to see if they will still insure the car and at what cost ! not informing them is a big no no ! claims have been refused to be paid just for not having informed them that the alloys wheels are not to the original specification .

Sorry to sound a bit of a killjoy but insurance companies do not need any help in avoiding paying out a claim but I am only confirming what Kingo said , I am duty bound to tell you, you must inform your insurers

Now then...............

There is good news..........and bad!

I have two methods of checking part numbers, the proper way, and my quick reference guide. When opening my mouth about the bars I had coming, I checked the QRG, in it, I had the wrong part numbers for RAV4.3, the bar/step I have fit a 4.2. These are as follows

PZ415-X2909-ZB Side steps @ £170 plus £15 carriage (£233.92 Retail) 72% Discount

PZ415-X290A-ZB side BARS S/Steel @ £160 plus £15 carriage (£214.06 Retail) 74% Discount

Valeite

As I promised you a set at our agreed price, I will get you a set for your 4.3, I will PM you to make arrangements.

To everybody else, sorry about the gaff, luckily I hadn't taken orders for 25 of them, lol. I have my feelers out for more 4.3 bars/steps, The above bars/steps are now here and available for sale. I will let you all know if I find any at the right price.

Now that I'm full of humble pie, I better get on with some work! Cheers

Kingo

Don't know if this is any help, but these were dealer fitted to mine when I bought it.

Was told that they retailed at £300 inc vat (can't remember if thats inclusive or exculsive of fitting)

They are crome tubes, which I think look as good as the side steps, but don't stick out as much and therefore don't have the habit of catching your nice clean trousers when you get in or out of the car!!

I haven't seen another one on the road with these either - which is nice........... ;)
