Advice On Scratch Removal- Please

I live on a farm over here on the IOM. shock and horror this morning, 2 young Aberdeen Angus cows had decided to push the gate open into the side of my T180.The over- fenders on the wheel arches were scratched and the front one had a small dent in it. With a bit of TLC I,ve managed to get the rear one virtually spot on. The front one I don,t know about, still a few scratch marks on the paint work and I am wondering whether to get it done at my Toyota dealer ( replacing the whole flare) or getting a " Scratch Docter" out to have a look at it. It,s probably me who,s a bit paranoid but I really do like my Rav. Any thoughts would be welcome!!!

(remember the flare is plastic not metal)

I had some very bad gouges on my Focus which were repaired by Chips Away on my drive. This was in the plastic bumper I could not see the repair after. Do not know if Chips Away operate in the IOM.

Hi Clare

Everybody's worst nightmare - sorry to hear it.

Have you tried something like AutoGlym paint restorer? It is hard work but it is amazing what it will bring out. The laquer scratches very easily but with time and effort it will come out. However, if it has penetrated the laquer and is through to the base coat you will have to have the scratch man out.

What about a photo?

Regards

The first lesson is to obtain some rubber stoppers for their horns; plastic gates; and stop feeding the Scottish cows Buckfast!

I've used stuff to polish out scratches but as has been said, it just depends how deep its got. When's the T-bones ready???

First thing...Get Burger King on site to sort the cows out

I would get Dent Doctor or who ever does this in IOM as they would have this sorted in no time.....

  • 3 weeks later...

Well nearly a month later and yesterday(Tues) job as been done. It cost £120 and it is a job well done.Started at 9.30am and done for 2pm, he even gave me some touch-up paint and clear-laquer for if I ever need them. Leave it till the weekend and then do a Zanio polishing and detailing job on it.

Nice one Clare

Who did you use in the end if you do not mind me asking, just for future reference.

Anyway, glad your T180 is back in tip top condition :yahoo:

Fuji, it was a one man band out of Douglas called Up To Scratch. But as I say he was top notch.

Clare

If I knew how to get them uploaded onto TOC I would gladly do it, a bit thick on the techy side

Ok Master Class with Pictures on how to upload pictures into TOC forums....

Are we sitting comfortably.... :D :D

Most members on here use a web hosting site like www.photobucket.com...it's free clicky

Upload your pictures here, easy as point and click them into the list....

image1.jpg

image2.jpg

Once picture is uploaded select the Direct link http:// and copy this path...

image3.jpg

Then in the reply message in TOC or any new message, do the following. Select the Insert Image icon

image4.jpg

Then paste into this box the link you copied from photobucket above

image5.jpg

Once done I normally use the Preview Post button, to make sure all looks nice and spelt right as well.

Image then loaded into your post....

dusty-bin-toy.png

Then add smiley's to make it look nice....

I use Mozilla Firefox as my web tool as I hate IE   views things nicely.....

Using Firefox you can also get the image location from any web site (ensuring they allow you).

.......................................................................

By right clicking on any picture gives me the following...

image6.jpg

The you can just use the Inset Image button to inset the picture no need to upload to photobucket... :D :D

There hope this helps all............

Chatman, very well put across. It would have taken me a year to all of the above.:clap:

Dave ;)

Ps, what a great forum this is, our own technical experts and would have to agree with Fuj.

Chatman is definitely our resident software expert

Cheers, Chatman I will get to work on it ASAP. I must agree with Fuji and Dave M between you and Anchorman it is a real pleasure to go on to TOC ( Rav) to read common sense posting of the highest integrety. We really do put R4W to shame these days and that takes a lot of saying as I have always had the greatest respect for Kellys site, the trouble is the water between here and the USA, I think our views totally differ on the interpretation of certain articals about the Rav4( my own view)

Agree with you Clare on the R4W web site... I only pass by every now and then and leave my knowledge and advise but I think there views and postings are completely different to ours....

More suited to our American cousins over the pond... :cowboy: :cowboy: Kelly has a fabulous site and good TSB section
