Is 2.0td Better Buy Than D4d Because Of Flywheel Probs?

My 12yr old Peugeot 405 td is getting a bit costly to keep going, it has done 160,000miles though!

I really like the look of the old shape D4D Estate but after doing some research I get the impression that the flywheel only last 100,000 miles and then it's £900 to replace it. Does anyone know if the very first or very last ones made escaped this problem?

If not then perhaps the earlier 2.0Td would be a better bet? Would I be right in saying though that these were only available pre the revisions that were made to the suspension etc? Does this make much difference? I see that they had rear drum brakes (which i really want to avoid if possible) but I wonder if there are any other big differences?

My understanding is that the problem has been solved on 2003+ models.

The new shape ones were introduced March 03 so probably all the old shape ones have this dodgy flywheel. Shame as this is quite a big flaw by the sounds of things!

The old 2.0 2CT diesel was also smoother and quieter from my experience than the D4D, although it is a bit slower.
