50k Service Completed.

Just had my 50k 5 year service completed at Hodgsons Toyota at the Silverlink, Newcastle and the service guy has said my rear brake pads are 70% and the rear off side is lipped?

This service costs me £115

They wanted me to change the pollen filter at a cost of £45 but I already did this in June!!! They would clean the existing one for £25 if I didn't want to change it.

Brakes to be stripped and cleaned for £35 but I declined as just wanted the service done.

Is this work reasonable.

They have quoted me rear pads at £161. Is this correct or should this include rear discs???? Do I need new discs as the rear offside is lipped???? What does this mean???

Needless to say I am going to upgrade the rear pads and discs for performance ones and not the standard toyota parts.

Can the pollen filter be cleaned DIY????

Just had my 10k service today 115.35 for the service, 15 for a fuel clean but get this 70 quid to do a carbon brake clean (I dont think so!!!!) You do have to ask how Arnold Shark can sleep at night!!!! I am assuming from the uniformity in servicing that Toyota dictate servicing costs or subsidise the cost.

Got to go and find out how many miles have been put on my car in the road test, by some careful considerate 20 something mechanic :(

If you give me your vehicle reg or chassis number in PM I will price the parts for you. You could clean out your pollen filter, lord knows why it would be £25, but if you only changed it in June it will not even need looking at. The discs will "lip" or wear thin due to the hard material of the pads these days, if they are below minimum thickness, they will need to be replaced. Kingo

suppose it all depends how the car has been driven. when i had my 1year/10k service they didn't give me any recommendations at all, said everything was perfect. and as i had a service plan thrown in when i bought the car it didn't cost me a penny either. this was at arnold clark toyota in ayr.

I did nt see the point of the service plan as i dont intend taking to AC to have it serviced, it was only done there as i am not happy with the paint work, it appears to chip very easily. Got to take it to the body shop to have the paint thickness measured by a machine then they send a report off to Toyota.

I think the brake clean is where they allegedly strip down the brakes and clean off the carbon deposits, or more likely just take an air gun to them and blow off the brake dust but charge for the privelege

when you're getting the service plan for free (10k and 20k service) you can't complain. gotta save at least £200 with it.

no no no.....cant do that anymore, there is a machine you fit over the hubs and a solvent washes it all off, Magic! Does take a bit to fit over the hubs. Kingo

Surely the brakes can be cleaned using brake cleaner as a DIY thing.

Pollen filter is dead easy to change though I've had a look again after they highlighted it on the job card and the thing is black again. Is it common for them to blacken over a couple of months?

the pollen filter sits behind your glovebox its easy enough to take off as its just clips that hold it on.then u will see a rectangle shape with a detachable face remove that and there is your pollen filter it should be white if its black i would change it.but if its whiteish jst giv it a clean
