What Do Theses Odd Buttons Do?

Hi,

I live in cyprus and I have recently bought a 1997 RAV-4 which is a Japanese imported Limited Edition with an auto-box. Given it's age there are no owner's manuals for the car and there are 3 buttons in the car that I cannot figure out. Can anyone help me?

1. A small red button just forward of the gear lever with Japanese writing next to it. I think that it is an engine cut-out and therefore haven't touched it. If it is and I press it, how would I reactivate the engine?

2. Two buttons on the dash (left of the wheel) that reads "PWR" and "MAN". When should I activate these?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

the red button with the Japanese writing on it sounds like the interlock bypass. Pressing this and the brake pedal means you can move the gearstick without the engine running/ignition on.

No idea about the other two though !

PWR" and "MAN" are modes which the gearbox can change the speed of the gears, one of the modes (i suspect PR power ) allows the engine to rev for longer before going into the next gear, the other mode whats to change up early to keep the revs down and the fuel economy up , pop out and try it you should notice the difference :) .

Correct, like a sport and normal mode. Kingo

Thanks...I guessed that's what the buttons were for but just needed some advice.
