Whinning Noise From Left Wheel?

My 02 Avensis has over last few days developed a whinning noise when I steer to the left which appears to come from the wheel area. Any ideas what might be causing it?

Dead easy, it`s a knackered wheel bearing.

It sounds like it is the off-side one, but when you have it replaced make sure you have both done or you will be back next week for the other one!!

If it's the wheel bearing you should be able to identify excess play compared with the other side. Crouch down and face the wheel. With both hand grabbing over the tyre at 12 o'clock, use you body weight to push/pull as hard as you can.

Also

One of your brake calipers might be partially seized.

Check the thickness of the brake pads from one side to the other and whether there is a 'lip' developing on one of the discs. Also after any 3-4 mile journey feel the front wheel. There will be a noticeable diference in temperature if one side is binding.
