Sorry to waste precious posting space on yet another catalyst question but does just under £1100 sound about right to fit a new cat and the sensors??

Took my car over to Steven Eagell in Bletchley - Milton Keynes, today as i got letter last weak about a recall on my particular model due to rear brake lines freezing up in severely cold weather. My engine light is on so I thought I'd get them to fit a new lambda sensor to see of that cured the problem.

Next thing I know I've got the bird from the place on the phone quoting me the above price!!

I'm just after prices really from what other people have had to pay as I'm fairly confident in saying I can get it done for cheaper elsewhere!!

My car is a 2001 1.3S/GS

could get a sportscat/decat and the sensors plus fitting for less than that by all means..1100 seems shocking.

im just glad i get anything done at work and never have to go to steven eagells

Whatever you do don't pay that price.

Get a new cat from somewhere and get it welded in, should cost less than £200, unless you get a sports cat which they are more expensive but are easier to get.

2 New sensors shouldn't cost much and are pretty easy to get to on the phase 1's to change.

Order the sensors from toyota but get someone else to fit them,

Would it be easier to get the error read rather than spending on the exhaust to find out it's not that thats causing the problem.

Disconnect the Battery for half an hour and see how long it takes the engine light to come back on.

That's all been done mate!! I reset it a few weeks ago and it stayed off for a few days then come on again. Repeated this soon after again and it come on straight away. I had it checked with them before and they said it could be the sensors or the cat, they've now checked it again and have said it's definitely the cat!!!

I've since sourced one for a measley £129 so not bad at all really, compared to Toyota pricing!

It's about time something went wrong anyways, I've had it for 5 years now and it's never even been near a garage once, only for the MOT!

toyotas price is expensive because you have to pay for the exhaust from the manifold to the backbox including the cat.

it works much cheaper just to weld a new cat into place, but toyota won't do this.
