Are Mk2 MR2's known for rusting bad underneith or are they quite solid?

Im just asking because Im have 2nd thoughts about getting an old car now as my old 1991 Merc just failed its MOT with rust around the rear jacking point. Its been repaired and passed the MOT now but I just dont want to buy another old car and have to have it welded every year or 2 :(

from what i have seen the Mk2 Mr2 is very solid. If in doubt go for a jap import as there usaly in better nick body wise.

If you keep them clean and make sure the underside has been undersealed you should have no need to weld anything

Mk2's dont suffer from rust at all really. Seen a few lower spec UK models with blobs of rust round the rear arches. Nothing to worry about!
