3 years to the day on the date of 1st registration.. you can however get it MOT'd before this if you want to.

Basically you can take it anytime from now... (up to 4 weeks from when it's due) Take your log book with you and your MOT certificate will be dated from the date of first registration.

Taking it sooner rather than later will give you time for any jobs that can be done under the warranty.

If it is anything like mine it will pass with flying colours. The MOT tester was very impressed with my car :toast:

You can have an MOT every day of your life, if you want to (or could afford to) Get it in a week or so before it's due, just so any warranty issues can be addressed. The MOT will be applied from the day you have it done. Kingo

As mentioned earlier, get it done up to 4 weeks BEFORE the old one runs out. If you make sure the testing station sees your reg. document and/or any reminder, they will date it from the day it needs to start. This will effectively give you 13 months MOT. if you pass or a bit of time sorting out any problems if you fail.

In your case, you wont have an old one, just the reg. document but the same rule applies. :D

Not sure how it works on the first MOT, but once you've had a computerised MOT you no longer have to take your old certificate with you when you do an early MOT; if there are days left to run on your old one they're automatically added to the duration of the new MOT.

Not sure how it works on the first MOT,

Just done it on mine. You have to take your log book (V5?) and they will start the MOT from the date of first registration

From then on it's as you have said.

Hi

Let's clear this up! You can take your car for a test up to one calendar month before it is due. You don't need to take any paperwork. When the garage looks up your car on the VOSA computer system it Will show the date of registration and your new certificate will run for 12 months from that date.

See: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ownin.../Mot/DG_4022112

So, if you take your car for test on 29 Aug onwards, you will automatically get an MOT that runs from 28 Sep 07.

Everything was clear

However, I disagree about not taking any paperwork for your first MOT.

If in doubt, ring the garage you intend going to and check if they need your log book for the first test

This may be true technically, but I use the same garage anually for mine and my daughters cars and they always ask for the mot. It may just be simpler for them though. lso, got asked for the bike one at a bike place, even though I was one of the 1st to have comuterised one. Makes sence to have it, after all, its only a peice of paper to carry.
