Rav4 Px Price

I must say i never thought buying a new car and asking for advise would open up such a debate. It is interesting reading different peoples views on the merits of trading in to a dealer. I understand the traders view but as most of us here are private buyers we all still feel the need to do a deal that feels right. I do not really understand the monthly figure debate as how i finance the car has not even been mentioned by the dealer. We have been thinking overnight that it might be worth advertising our car for sale privately and see if we can get a good price. My fear is someone will walk in and buy the Volvo while we are waiting for a sale. The other feeling with my work mates is give it another week when the new reg comes out and the market should be flooded with used XC90s. We waited to see if the dealer would ring today but so far nothing. I think we will play the waiting game and see who rings first. The worst part is i love the Volvo and its spec so i don't know how long i can hang on. Any more advise will be most wellcome. Thanks.

One thing i forgot to add in my last post is why are the private price guides ( parkers and whatcar) so far out compared to the trade guide. What is the point of these magazines printing a guide if the p/x prices they quote are so unrealistic.

I think the dealer would give you rock bottom price ! have a look at auction prices that would give a good idea of what you would get as the dealer would not pay more than he could buy it for at an auction but it does depend if he has a customer in mind for the car or the car is in short supply on the used car market

The Honest John column on the telegraph website has a round up of car auction prices.

The dealer WILL hit you with a rock bottom price. He is in business, he is not going to give you retail which is what this debate has mainly been about. There are usually two prices for everything in life, the buying price and the selling price, whoever buys your car wants to make a profit by selling it on, it's how you haggle that price to the narrowest point that matters to you. Why not try a specialist magazine, or autotrader, I hear what your saying about not wanting people coming around picking fault, but if the car is as good as you say, you could always tell them to :censor: :censor: :censor:

it's never easy selling a car, but if you want the best price for it, you may have to work at it a while. Kingo

That is something of a wonder to the trade too, try going into a dealer with a Parkers in your hand and see what he says to you,:lol::lol::lol:

Another price guide not know by everyone......

http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/

Private Good: £10,644

Private Average: £9,954

Private Poor: £9,364

Part Exchange: £10,244

Trade: £10,151

These prices mirror the other private guides. I think the trade guides must be written by Kingo and his mates(joke!)

I done a PX to buy my current RAV4, i used my Lexus IS200 at the time and felt i gone done over by around a £1000, but once you've done the deal you soon forget about it...as they say " your first loss ,is your worst lost "...do the deal or keep your RAV4, i'm sure we all know what we would do :D :) .

It depends on how much you want the car ! if you go to the showroom and point out that you have come to do a deal if they will meet what you want ( but be realistic) it concentrates there mind and say you will sign on the dotted line on the day

Point out they will make some more money on you from arranging the finance if you need it and servicing if you intend to have the car serviced there.

Its really just a game of poker sometimes you win sometimes you lose but I would guess with September 1st trade ins coming in they would want to clear there stocks (how long have they had the car in stock ask them) with interest rates getting higher the more money they have in there stock the more they will want to sell

Yes I am surprised how much comment has been made about your deal but I suppose we all have a tale to tell regarding car purchases

Good luck and as you have said if the deal feels right do it trust your instincts

Thanks for the advice, if no phone call comes tomorrow i will call in at the dealership after work and see if i can push them into a compromise. If the deal does not improve we will walk away and go the private sale route.(the subject of what to do has been discussed at length with the wife for the last two hours)Thanks

Good for you.

Don't forget Volvo are churning those things out into the market so there will always be another. The trouble is now that he knows you are dead keen and he is probably playing you at your own game. Try yours privately and if the Volvo is still there when you have generated a few extra thousands you can go and see if he has lost his bottle.

Take your time mate - if you weaken to this deal it will sour the experience for you.

Cheers.

Strange, as if I had seen this amonth ago I would have travelled to see this car, we could have struck a deal to please BOTH parties and I would have saved some money and you the seller would have got more than your currently being offered, it's to late now as I have mine, but it's a shame as we could both of been very happy.

FWIW, I would'nt have another Volvo, I've had a few and driven many, not for me, but I understand others tastes differ B)

Best of luck with your current venture ;)

Couldn't wait for the salesman to ring any longer. Rang the dealership to say i was coming down to cut a deal today. Waited on the line for a few seconds then i was told " so sorry sir the car was sold yesterday". Slightly dissapointed, wife says its my fault for not pushing a better deal earlier in the week. Maybe i have learnt a valuable lesson today. Wife believes in fate and says it was not the right car. Thanks for all your help and advice over the last few days. I will now go and crack open a tinney and sulk for a few hours!

Told you it was wrong, wrong car, wrong deal, just wrong! Perhaps you are destined for another Toyota. I may join you in that tinney, it's been a long day :o Take a trip to sunny North Wales, let's see what we can sell you ;)

Cheers

Kingo

O2, some you win some you lose :(

I was going to suggest the same as Kingo, go to your local dealer and have a look at a 4.3. They are a bit bigger than the 4.2.

You would get a cracker of a Rav for XC 90 money.

Chin up mate ;)

Dave.

I have tried the new Rav last month. My father lives in Spain and has a new left hand Rav diesel. I think some of the modifications on the new model are very good but we really wanted to get away from the small 4x4. We tow a caravan on weekends and fancied a larger car/jeep. Looked at X5's, Mls but the XC90 just stood out. Would love an Audi Q7 but our numbers need to come up tonight first. One thing i noticed with my fathers car is the colour. In Spain they sell the rav in a gold colour. You do not seem to be able to order this colour in the UK.

I am also a great believer in fate and cars are like buses the next one will be along soon !

Also I am surprised the dealer did not say to you we will search the Volvo database to source you another car .

I know if I had a customer ready to do a deal I would go all out to find him what he wants ( sounds a bit sloppy to me and if they will not put themselves out when somebody is buying a motor what hope have you got when you have got it)

Do you think September 1st new reg has something to do with it.

Yes you are probably right but its a bit short sighted on there part as there are 30 days in September any salesman worth his salt is looking to his next sales targets ! the cars that are to be picked up on September 1st have been sold if you know what I mean
