Yea it's a pain in the *****.

Easiest way is to lift engine + box out of the car then split off the box replace clutch then reassemble. Also it's way easier to do the cambelt with the engine out, not much space that end with it in the car...

Can be done with the engine in the car, but requires you to drop the subframe then take the box out the bottom. There's not much space though so expect to have no skin left on your knucles. Oh and the box won't come off straight you have to kind of twist and turn it off the engine...

Good Luck :D

straight out of the wheel arch, drives like a different car now, also did the cambelt today, it was easier than doing it on my old 106 gti

You make changing a clutch sound like cooking bread! I'd love to give it a go but I just think it would be too much. Cambelt wasn't too hard though with the engine in. We just supercharged my brother's Celica and digging away at engine ancillaries just makes me anxious about reassembly.

lol every body says it is realy hard and its easyer to take the engine out. But when you get all the charge cooler and pipes out the way it not to bad. Just need to take ya time and think about how it will come out but i dont think i would like to do one on the floor tho !

don't know what you guys struggle at i can (mods and things permitting) have a GT4 engine and box out and on the floor in an average of 2 hrs!

its a piece of cake (well when you can use a 2 post lift).

engine out just remover the worm drive from the transfer, the bit that the prop goes on, its held on by six bolts. then the engine and box will lift straight out the top, although you will need to lift at about 45 deg with the gear box lowest (machine mart do a load leveler for about £30 to do this)

after swapping the clutch you will need a few friends to help get the gearbox back on .

or you can give ian at TR&D a ring to get a quote for the fitting (0115 9680666)
