2.0 D4d Starting Problems

Hi to all,

I have a 2.0 D4D Avensis from 2004.

Yesterday I went to work in the morning and my Avensis was ok. In the end of the day, I entered the car, turned the key, the motor runs but it doesn't start.

It's not a Battery problem as the motor spins. I also don't get any alarm lights.

I dont know if it is any injector problem, as it seams that the diesel isn't getting into the engine. Do you know what it might be?

Regards.

When you say that the motor spins do you mean the starter or the engine ?

If only the starter is spinning then the bendix on the motor is not engaging on the starter system.

I believe that the bendix is engaging the starter system. The proble is that the motor doesn't start.

Hi There,

I had this happen to my 2004 T4 D4D a few months ago. It strted fine and then wouldn't start 10 minutes later. Similar to your own, the stater was turning, but the engine wouldn't 'catch'.

I left it to cool down for a few hours, and it started. I took it straight to the local Mr T Dealership and they diagnosed a busted starter motor. The technician said that when the solonoid (sp?) goes, it will engage intermittantly until it fails altogether.

It costs about £400 for a new starter, but I had it done under warranty (phew!)

Hope this helps

Had this this week after a trip to scotland the car would start eventualy but turns over slowish the speed did not seem too slow untill the refurbed motor was fitted then it spins real quick, Starts on the button now.

Toyota was £400 but a small garage had mine refurb exchanged. £110 fitted took all day though.

Starts real good now cant spot the difference in starting on Bio diesel at all now.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi to all!

Thank you for your answers!

This year in the summer I went from Portugal to Croatia on my Toyota. The trip went very well and I did about 5.00miles in 3 weeks.

During the trip, a lorry blew a tire that I run over. This damaged an electric wire that finally broke here back in Portugal. I don't know with wire it was, but this was the cause for the motor to not starting (may be the wire to the injection system?). It was repaired at Toyota for about £100.

Regards.
